1:1初めからあったもの、わたしたちが聞いたもの、目で見たもの、よく見て手でさわったもの、すなわち、いのちの言について		1:1 That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw, and our hands touched, concerning the Word of life
1:2このいのちが現れたので、この永遠のいのちをわたしたちは見て、そのあかしをし、かつ、あなたがたに告げ知らせるのである。この永遠のいのちは、父と共にいましたが、今やわたしたちに現れたものである		1:2 (and the life was revealed, and we have seen, and testify, and declare to you the life, the eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us);
1:3すなわち、わたしたちが見たもの、聞いたものを、あなたがたにも告げ知らせる。それは、あなたがたも、わたしたちの交わりにあずかるようになるためである。わたしたちの交わりとは、父ならびに御子イエス・キリストとの交わりのことである。		1:3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us. Yes, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
1:4これを書きおくるのは、わたしたちの喜びが満ちあふれるためである。		1:4 And we write these things to you, that our joy may be fulfilled.
1:5わたしたちがイエスから聞いて、あなたがたに伝えるおとずれは、こうである。神は光であって、神には少しの暗いところもない。		1:5 This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1:6神と交わりをしていると言いながら、もし、やみの中を歩いているなら、わたしたちは偽っているのであって、真理を行っているのではない。		1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don't tell the truth.
1:7しかし、神が光の中にいますように、わたしたちも光の中を歩くならば、わたしたちは互に交わりをもち、そして、御子イエスの血が、すべての罪からわたしたちをきよめるのである。		1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
1:8もし、罪がないと言うなら、それは自分を欺くことであって、真理はわたしたちのうちにない。		1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1:9もし、わたしたちが自分の罪を告白するならば、神は真実で正しいかたであるから、その罪をゆるし、すべての不義からわたしたちをきよめて下さる。		1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1:10もし、罪を犯したことがないと言うなら、それは神を偽り者とするのであって、神の言はわたしたちのうちにない。		1:10 If we say that we haven't sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
2:1わたしの子たちよ。これらのことを書きおくるのは、あなたがたが罪を犯さないようになるためである。もし、罪を犯す者があれば、父のみもとには、わたしたちのために助け主、すなわち、義なるイエス・キリストがおられる。		2:1 My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor {Greek Parakleton: Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, and Comforter.} with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.
2:2彼は、わたしたちの罪のための、あがないの供え物である。ただ、わたしたちの罪のためばかりではなく、全世界の罪のためである。		2:2 And he is the atoning sacrifice {"atoning sacrifice" is from the Greek "hilasmos," an appeasing, propitiating, or the means of appeasement or propitiation--the sacrifice that turns away God's wrath because of our sin.} for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
2:3もし、わたしたちが彼の戒めを守るならば、それによって彼を知っていることを悟るのである。		2:3 This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.
2:4「彼を知っている」と言いながら、その戒めを守らない者は、偽り者であって、真理はその人のうちにない。		2:4 One who says, "I know him," and doesn't keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn't in him.
2:5しかし、彼の御言を守る者があれば、その人のうちに、神の愛が真に全うされるのである。それによって、わたしたちが彼にあることを知るのである。		2:5 But whoever keeps his word, God's love has most certainly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him:
2:6「彼におる」と言う者は、彼が歩かれたように、その人自身も歩くべきである。		2:6 he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.
2:7愛する者たちよ。わたしがあなたがたに書きおくるのは、新しい戒めではなく、あなたがたが初めから受けていた古い戒めである。その古い戒めとは、あなたがたがすでに聞いた御言である。		2:7 Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.
2:8しかも、新しい戒めを、あなたがたに書きおくるのである。そして、それは、彼にとってもあなたがたにとっても、真理なのである。なぜなら、やみは過ぎ去り、まことの光がすでに輝いているからである。		2:8 Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.
2:9「光の中にいる」と言いながら、その兄弟を憎む者は、今なお、やみの中にいるのである。		2:9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now.
2:10兄弟を愛する者は、光におるのであって、つまずくことはない。		2:10 He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.
2:11兄弟を憎む者は、やみの中におり、やみの中を歩くのであって、自分ではどこへ行くのかわからない。やみが彼の目を見えなくしたからである。		2:11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn't know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
2:12子たちよ。あなたがたにこれを書きおくるのは、御名のゆえに、あなたがたの多くの罪がゆるされたからである。		2:12 I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
2:13父たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくるのは、あなたがたが、初めからいますかたを知ったからである。若者たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくるのは、あなたがたが、悪しき者にうち勝ったからである。		2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.
2:14子供たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくったのは、あなたがたが父を知ったからである。父たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくったのは、あなたがたが、初めからいますかたを知ったからである。若者たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくったのは、あなたがたが強い者であり、神の言があなたがたに宿り、そして、あなたがたが悪しき者にうち勝ったからである。		2:14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
2:15世と世にあるものとを、愛してはいけない。もし、世を愛する者があれば、父の愛は彼のうちにない。		2:15 Don't love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love isn't in him.
2:16すべて世にあるもの、すなわち、肉の欲、目の欲、持ち物の誇は、父から出たものではなく、世から出たものである。		2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's.
2:17世と世の欲とは過ぎ去る。しかし、神の御旨を行う者は、永遠にながらえる。		2:17 The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God's will remains forever.
2:18子供たちよ。今は終りの時である。あなたがたがかねて反キリストが来ると聞いていたように、今や多くの反キリストが現れてきた。それによって今が終りの時であることを知る。		2:18 Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.
2:19彼らはわたしたちから出て行った。しかし、彼らはわたしたちに属する者ではなかったのである。もし属する者であったなら、わたしたちと一緒にとどまっていたであろう。しかし、出て行ったのは、元来、彼らがみなわたしたちに属さない者であることが、明らかにされるためである。		2:19 They went out from us, but they didn't belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.
2:20しかし、あなたがたは聖なる者に油を注がれているので、あなたがたすべてが、そのことを知っている。		2:20 You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. {Or, "know what is true." Or, "know all things."}
2:21わたしが書きおくったのは、あなたがたが真理を知らないからではなく、それを知っているからであり、また、すべての偽りは真理から出るものでないことを、知っているからである。		2:21 I have not written to you because you don't know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
2:22偽り者とは、だれであるか。イエスのキリストであることを否定する者ではないか。父と御子とを否定する者は、反キリストである。		2:22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
2:23御子を否定する者は父を持たず、御子を告白する者は、また父をも持つのである。		2:23 Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn't have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
2:24初めから聞いたことが、あなたがたのうちに、とどまるようにしなさい。初めから聞いたことが、あなたがたのうちにとどまっておれば、あなたがたも御子と父とのうちに、とどまることになる。		2:24 Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.
2:25これが、彼自らわたしたちに約束された約束であって、すなわち、永遠のいのちである。		2:25 This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.
2:26わたしは、あなたがたを惑わす者たちについて、これらのことを書きおくった。		2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.
2:27あなたがたのうちには、キリストからいただいた油がとどまっているので、だれにも教えてもらう必要はない。この油が、すべてのことをあなたがたに教える。それはまことであって、偽りではないから、その油が教えたように、あなたがたは彼のうちにとどまっていなさい。		2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don't need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.
2:28そこで、子たちよ。キリストのうちにとどまっていなさい。それは、彼が現れる時に、確信を持ち、その来臨に際して、みまえに恥じいることがないためである。		2:28 Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
2:29彼の義なるかたであることがわかれば、義を行う者はみな彼から生れたものであることを、知るであろう。		2:29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of him.
3:1わたしたちが神の子と呼ばれるためには、どんなに大きな愛を父から賜わったことか、よく考えてみなさい。わたしたちは、すでに神の子なのである。世がわたしたちを知らないのは、父を知らなかったからである。		3:1 Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn't know us, because it didn't know him.
3:2愛する者たちよ。わたしたちは今や神の子である。しかし、わたしたちがどうなるのか、まだ明らかではない。彼が現れる時、わたしたちは、自分たちが彼に似るものとなることを知っている。そのまことの御姿を見るからである。		3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.
3:3彼についてこの望みをいだいている者は皆、彼がきよくあられるように、自らをきよくする。		3:3 Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
3:4すべて罪を犯す者は、不法を行う者である。罪は不法である。		3:4 Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
3:5あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼は罪をとり除くために現れたのであって、彼にはなんらの罪がない。		3:5 You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.
3:6すべて彼におる者は、罪を犯さない。すべて罪を犯す者は彼を見たこともなく、知ったこともない者である。		3:6 Whoever remains in him doesn't sin. Whoever sins hasn't seen him, neither knows him.
3:7子たちよ。だれにも惑わされてはならない。彼が義人であると同様に、義を行う者は義人である。		3:7 Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
3:8罪を犯す者は、悪魔から出た者である。悪魔は初めから罪を犯しているからである。神の子が現れたのは、悪魔のわざを滅ぼしてしまうためである。		3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
3:9すべて神から生れた者は、罪を犯さない。神の種が、その人のうちにとどまっているからである。また、その人は、神から生れた者であるから、罪を犯すことができない。		3:9 Whoever is born of God doesn't commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can't sin, because he is born of God.
3:10神の子と悪魔の子との区別は、これによって明らかである。すなわち、すべて義を行わない者は、神から出た者ではない。兄弟を愛さない者も、同様である。		3:10 In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn't do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn't love his brother.
3:11わたしたちは互に愛し合うべきである。これが、あなたがたの初めから聞いていたおとずれである。		3:11 For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;
3:12カインのようになってはいけない。彼は悪しき者から出て、その兄弟を殺したのである。なぜ兄弟を殺したのか。彼のわざが悪く、その兄弟のわざは正しかったからである。		3:12 unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
3:13兄弟たちよ。世があなたがたを憎んでも、驚くには及ばない。		3:13 Don't be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
3:14わたしたちは、兄弟を愛しているので、死からいのちへ移ってきたことを、知っている。愛さない者は、死のうちにとどまっている。		3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn't love his brother remains in death.
3:15あなたがたが知っているとおり、すべて兄弟を憎む者は人殺しであり、人殺しはすべて、そのうちに永遠のいのちをとどめてはいない。		3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
3:16主は、わたしたちのためにいのちを捨てて下さった。それによって、わたしたちは愛ということを知った。それゆえに、わたしたちもまた、兄弟のためにいのちを捨てるべきである。		3:16 By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
3:17世の富を持っていながら、兄弟が困っているのを見て、あわれみの心を閉じる者には、どうして神の愛が、彼のうちにあろうか。		3:17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
3:18子たちよ。わたしたちは言葉や口先だけで愛するのではなく、行いと真実とをもって愛し合おうではないか。		3:18 My little children, let's not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
3:19それによって、わたしたちが真理から出たものであることがわかる。そして、神のみまえに心を安んじていよう。		3:19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,
3:20なぜなら、たといわたしたちの心に責められるようなことがあっても、神はわたしたちの心よりも大いなるかたであって、すべてをご存じだからである。		3:20 because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
3:21愛する者たちよ。もし心に責められるようなことがなければ、わたしたちは神に対して確信を持つことができる。		3:21 Beloved, if our hearts don't condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
3:22そして、願い求めるものは、なんでもいただけるのである。それは、わたしたちが神の戒めを守り、みこころにかなうことを、行っているからである。		3:22 and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
3:23その戒めというのは、神の子イエス・キリストの御名を信じ、わたしたちに命じられたように、互に愛し合うべきことである。		3:23 This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
3:24神の戒めを守る人は、神におり、神もまたその人にいます。そして、神がわたしたちのうちにいますことは、神がわたしたちに賜わった御霊によって知るのである。		3:24 He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
4:1愛する者たちよ。すべての霊を信じることはしないで、それらの霊が神から出たものであるかどうか、ためしなさい。多くのにせ預言者が世に出てきているからである。		4:1 Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
4:2あなたがたは、こうして神の霊を知るのである。すなわち、イエス・キリストが肉体をとってこられたことを告白する霊は、すべて神から出ているものであり、		4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
4:3イエスを告白しない霊は、すべて神から出ているものではない。これは、反キリストの霊である。あなたがたは、それが来るとかねて聞いていたが、今やすでに世にきている。		4:3 and every spirit who doesn't confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.
4:4子たちよ。あなたがたは神から出た者であって、彼らにうち勝ったのである。あなたがたのうちにいますのは、世にある者よりも大いなる者なのである。		4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
4:5彼らは世から出たものである。だから、彼らは世のことを語り、世も彼らの言うことを聞くのである。		4:5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.
4:6しかし、わたしたちは神から出たものである。神を知っている者は、わたしたちの言うことを聞き、神から出ない者は、わたしたちの言うことを聞かない。これによって、わたしたちは、真理の霊と迷いの霊との区別を知るのである。		4:6 We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn't listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
4:7愛する者たちよ。わたしたちは互に愛し合おうではないか。愛は、神から出たものなのである。すべて愛する者は、神から生れた者であって、神を知っている。		4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God.
4:8愛さない者は、神を知らない。神は愛である。		4:8 He who doesn't love doesn't know God, for God is love.
4:9神はそのひとり子を世につかわし、彼によってわたしたちを生きるようにして下さった。それによって、わたしたちに対する神の愛が明らかにされたのである。		4:9 By this God's love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
4:10わたしたちが神を愛したのではなく、神がわたしたちを愛して下さって、わたしたちの罪のためにあがないの供え物として、御子をおつかわしになった。ここに愛がある。		4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice {"atoning sacrifice" is from the Greek "hilasmos," an appeasing, propitiating, or the means of appeasement or propitiation--the sacrifice that turns away God's wrath because of our sin.} for our sins.
4:11愛する者たちよ。神がこのようにわたしたちを愛して下さったのであるから、わたしたちも互に愛し合うべきである。		4:11 Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.
4:12神を見た者は、まだひとりもいない。もしわたしたちが互に愛し合うなら、神はわたしたちのうちにいまし、神の愛がわたしたちのうちに全うされるのである。		4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us.
4:13神が御霊をわたしたちに賜わったことによって、わたしたちが神におり、神がわたしたちにいますことを知る。		4:13 By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
4:14わたしたちは、父が御子を世の救主としておつかわしになったのを見て、そのあかしをするのである。		4:14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.
4:15もし人が、イエスを神の子と告白すれば、神はその人のうちにいまし、その人は神のうちにいるのである。		4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God.
4:16わたしたちは、神がわたしたちに対して持っておられる愛を知り、かつ信じている。神は愛である。愛のうちにいる者は、神におり、神も彼にいます。		4:16 We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
4:17わたしたちもこの世にあって彼のように生きているので、さばきの日に確信を持って立つことができる。そのことによって、愛がわたしたちに全うされているのである。		4:17 In this love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so are we in this world.
4:18愛には恐れがない。完全な愛は恐れをとり除く。恐れには懲らしめが伴い、かつ恐れる者には、愛が全うされていないからである。		4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.
4:19わたしたちが愛し合うのは、神がまずわたしたちを愛して下さったからである。		4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
4:20「神を愛している」と言いながら兄弟を憎む者は、偽り者である。現に見ている兄弟を愛さない者は、目に見えない神を愛することはできない。		4:20 If a man says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn't love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
4:21神を愛する者は、兄弟をも愛すべきである。この戒めを、わたしたちは神から授かっている。		4:21 This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.
5:1すべてイエスのキリストであることを信じる者は、神から生れた者である。すべて生んで下さったかたを愛する者は、そのかたから生れた者をも愛するのである。		5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.
5:2神を愛してその戒めを行えば、それによってわたしたちは、神の子たちを愛していることを知るのである。		5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.
5:3神を愛するとは、すなわち、その戒めを守ることである。そして、その戒めはむずかしいものではない。		5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.
5:4なぜなら、すべて神から生れた者は、世に勝つからである。そして、わたしたちの信仰こそ、世に勝たしめた勝利の力である。		5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.
5:5世に勝つ者はだれか。イエスを神の子と信じる者ではないか。		5:5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
5:6このイエス・キリストは、水と血とをとおってこられたかたである。水によるだけではなく、水と血とによってこられたのである。そのあかしをするものは、御霊である。御霊は真理だからである。		5:6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
5:7あかしをするものが、三つある。		5:7 For there are three who testify {Only a few recent manuscripts add "in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that testify on earth"}:
5:8御霊と水と血とである。そして、この三つのものは一致する。		5:8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.
5:9わたしたちは人間のあかしを受けいれるが、しかし、神のあかしはさらにまさっている。神のあかしというのは、すなわち、御子について立てられたあかしである。		5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God's testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.
5:10神の子を信じる者は、自分のうちにこのあかしを持っている。神を信じない者は、神を偽り者とする。神が御子についてあかしせられたそのあかしを、信じていないからである。		5:10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn't believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.
5:11そのあかしとは、神が永遠のいのちをわたしたちに賜わり、かつ、そのいのちが御子のうちにあるということである。		5:11 The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12御子を持つ者はいのちを持ち、神の御子を持たない者はいのちを持っていない。		5:12 He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn't have God's Son doesn't have the life.
5:13これらのことをあなたがたに書きおくったのは、神の子の御名を信じるあなたがたに、永遠のいのちを持っていることを、悟らせるためである。		5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
5:14わたしたちが神に対していだいている確信は、こうである。すなわち、わたしたちが何事でも神の御旨に従って願い求めるなら、神はそれを聞きいれて下さるということである。		5:14 This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.
5:15そして、わたしたちが願い求めることは、なんでも聞きいれて下さるとわかれば、神に願い求めたことはすでにかなえられたことを、知るのである。		5:15 And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.
5:16もしだれかが死に至ることのない罪を犯している兄弟を見たら、神に願い求めなさい。そうすれば神は、死に至ることのない罪を犯している人々には、いのちを賜わるであろう。死に至る罪がある。これについては、願い求めよ、とは言わない。		5:16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don't say that he should make a request concerning this.
5:17不義はすべて、罪である。しかし、死に至ることのない罪もある。		5:17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.
5:18すべて神から生れた者は罪を犯さないことを、わたしたちは知っている。神から生れたかたが彼を守っていて下さるので、悪しき者が手を触れるようなことはない。		5:18 We know that whoever is born of God doesn't sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn't touch him.
5:19また、わたしたちは神から出た者であり、全世界は悪しき者の配下にあることを、知っている。		5:19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
5:20さらに、神の子がきて、真実なかたを知る知力をわたしたちに授けて下さったことも、知っている。そして、わたしたちは、真実なかたにおり、御子イエス・キリストにおるのである。このかたは真実な神であり、永遠のいのちである。		5:20 We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
5:21子たちよ。気をつけて、偶像を避けなさい。		5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
