1:1神の僕、イエス・キリストの使徒パウロからわたしが使徒とされたのは、神に選ばれた者たちの信仰を強め、また、信心にかなう真理の知識を彼らに得させるためであり、		1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's chosen ones, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
1:2偽りのない神が永遠の昔に約束された永遠のいのちの望みに基くのである。		1:2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who can't lie, promised before time began;
1:3神は、定められた時に及んで、御言を宣教によって明らかにされたが、わたしは、わたしたちの救主なる神の任命によって、この宣教をゆだねられたのである		1:3 but in his own time revealed his word in the message with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior;
1:4信仰を同じうするわたしの真実の子テトスへ。父なる神とわたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスから、恵みと平安とが、あなたにあるように。		1:4 to Titus, my true child according to a common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
1:5あなたをクレテにおいてきたのは、わたしがあなたに命じておいたように、そこにし残してあることを整理してもらい、また、町々に長老を立ててもらうためにほかならない。		1:5 I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you;
1:6長老は、責められる点がなく、ひとりの妻の夫であって、その子たちも不品行のうわさをたてられず、親不孝をしない信者でなくてはならない。		1:6 if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior.
1:7監督たる者は、神に仕える者として、責められる点がなく、わがままでなく、軽々しく怒らず、酒を好まず、乱暴でなく、利をむさぼらず、		1:7 For the overseer must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;
1:8かえって、旅人をもてなし、善を愛し、慎み深く、正しく、信仰深く、自制する者であり、		1:8 but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled;
1:9教にかなった信頼すべき言葉を守る人でなければならない。それは、彼が健全な教によって人をさとし、また、反対者の誤りを指摘することができるためである。		1:9 holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.
1:10実は、法に服さない者、空論に走る者、人の心を惑わす者が多くおり、とくに、割礼のある者の中に多い。		1:10 For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
1:11彼らの口を封ずべきである。彼らは恥ずべき利のために、教えてはならないことを教えて、数々の家庭を破壊してしまっている。		1:11 whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain's sake.
1:12クレテ人のうちのある預言者が「クレテ人は、いつもうそつき、たちの悪いけもの、なまけ者の食いしんぼう」と言っているが、		1:12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons."
1:13この非難はあたっている。だから、彼らをきびしく責めて、その信仰を健全なものにし、		1:13 This testimony is true. For this cause, reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
1:14ユダヤ人の作り話や、真理からそれていった人々の定めなどに、気をとられることがないようにさせなさい。		1:14 not paying attention to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
1:15きよい人には、すべてのものがきよい。しかし、汚れている不信仰な人には、きよいものは一つもなく、その知性も良心も汚れてしまっている。		1:15 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
1:16彼らは神を知っていると、口では言うが、行いではそれを否定している。彼らは忌まわしい者、また不従順な者であって、いっさいの良いわざに関しては、失格者である。		1:16 They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.
2:1しかし、あなたは、健全な教にかなうことを語りなさい。		2:1 But say the things which fit sound doctrine,
2:2老人たちには自らを制し、謹厳で、慎み深くし、また、信仰と愛と忍耐とにおいて健全であるように勧め、		2:2 that older men should be temperate, sensible, sober minded, sound in faith, in love, and in patience:
2:3年老いた女たちにも、同じように、たち居ふるまいをうやうやしくし、人をそしったり大酒の奴隷になったりせず、良いことを教える者となるように、勧めなさい。		2:3 and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;
2:4そうすれば、彼女たちは、若い女たちに、夫を愛し、子供を愛し、		2:4 that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
2:5慎み深く、純潔で、家事に努め、善良で、自分の夫に従順であるように教えることになり、したがって、神の言がそしりを受けないようになるであろう。		2:5 to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God's word may not be blasphemed.
2:6若い男にも、同じく、万事につけ慎み深くあるように、勧めなさい。		2:6 Likewise, exhort the younger men to be sober minded;
2:7あなた自身を良いわざの模範として示し、人を教える場合には、清廉と謹厳とをもってし、		2:7 in all things showing yourself an example of good works; in your teaching showing integrity, seriousness, incorruptibility,
2:8非難のない健全な言葉を用いなさい。そうすれば、反対者も、わたしたちについてなんの悪口も言えなくなり、自ら恥じいるであろう。		2:8 and soundness of speech that can't be condemned; that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.
2:9奴隷には、万事につけその主人に服従して、喜ばれるようになり、反抗をせず、		2:9 Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing in all things; not contradicting;
2:10盗みをせず、どこまでも心をこめた真実を示すようにと、勧めなさい。そうすれば、彼らは万事につけ、わたしたちの救主なる神の教を飾ることになろう。		2:10 not stealing, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God, our Savior, in all things.
2:11すべての人を救う神の恵みが現れた。		2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
2:12そして、わたしたちを導き、不信心とこの世の情欲とを捨てて、慎み深く、正しく、信心深くこの世で生活し、		2:12 instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;
2:13祝福に満ちた望み、すなわち、大いなる神、わたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスの栄光の出現を待ち望むようにと、教えている。		2:13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ;
2:14このキリストが、わたしたちのためにご自身をささげられたのは、わたしたちをすべての不法からあがない出して、良いわざに熱心な選びの民を、ご自身のものとして聖別するためにほかならない。		2:14 who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.
2:15あなたは、権威をもってこれらのことを語り、勧め、また責めなさい。だれにも軽んじられてはならない。		2:15 Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise you.
3:1あなたは彼らに勧めて、支配者、権威ある者に服し、これに従い、いつでも良いわざをする用意があり、		3:1 Remind them to be in subjection to rulers and to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,
3:2だれをもそしらず、争わず、寛容であって、すべての人に対してどこまでも柔和な態度を示すべきことを、思い出させなさい。		3:2 to speak evil of no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all humility toward all men.
3:3わたしたちも以前には、無分別で、不従順な、迷っていた者であって、さまざまの情欲と快楽との奴隷になり、悪意とねたみとで日を過ごし、人に憎まれ、互に憎み合っていた。		3:3 For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
3:4ところが、わたしたちの救主なる神の慈悲と博愛とが現れたとき、		3:4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared,
3:5わたしたちの行った義のわざによってではなく、ただ神のあわれみによって、再生の洗いを受け、聖霊により新たにされて、わたしたちは救われたのである。		3:5 not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
3:6この聖霊は、わたしたちの救主イエス・キリストをとおして、わたしたちの上に豊かに注がれた。		3:6 whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior;
3:7これは、わたしたちが、キリストの恵みによって義とされ、永遠のいのちを望むことによって、御国をつぐ者となるためである。		3:7 that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
3:8この言葉は確実である。わたしは、あなたがそれらのことを主張するのを願っている。それは、神を信じている者たちが、努めて良いわざを励むことを心がけるようになるためである。これは良いことであって、人々の益となる。		3:8 This saying is faithful, and concerning these things I desire that you affirm confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men;
3:9しかし、愚かな議論と、系図と、争いと、律法についての論争とを、避けなさい。それらは無益かつ空虚なことである。		3:9 but shun foolish questionings, genealogies, strife, and disputes about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
3:10異端者は、一、二度、訓戒を加えた上で退けなさい。		3:10 Avoid a factious man after a first and second warning;
3:11たしかに、こういう人たちは、邪道に陥り、自ら悪と知りつつも、罪を犯しているからである。		3:11 knowing that such a one is perverted, and sins, being self-condemned.
3:12わたしがアルテマスかテキコかをあなたのところに送ったなら、急いでニコポリにいるわたしの所にきなさい。わたしは、そこで冬を過ごすことにした。		3:12 When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me to Nicopolis, for I have determined to winter there.
3:13法学者ゼナスと、アポロとを、急いで旅につかせ、不自由のないようにしてあげなさい。		3:13 Send Zenas, the lawyer, and Apollos on their journey speedily, that nothing may be lacking for them.
3:14わたしたちの仲間も、さし迫った必要に備えて、努めて良いわざを励み、実を結ばぬ者とならないように、心がけるべきである。		3:14 Let our people also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful.
3:15わたしと共にいる一同の者から、あなたによろしく。わたしたちを愛している信徒たちに、よろしく。恵みが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。		3:15 All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
