1:1パウロとシルワノとテモテから、わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストとにあるテサロニケ人たちの教会へ。		1:1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ:
1:2父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。		1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは、いつもあなたがたのことを神に感謝せずにはおられない。またそうするのが当然である。それは、あなたがたの信仰が大いに成長し、あなたがたひとりびとりの愛が、お互の間に増し加わっているからである。		1:3 We are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers, {The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} even as it is appropriate, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of each and every one of you towards one another abounds;
1:4そのために、わたしたち自身は、あなたがたがいま受けているあらゆる迫害と患難とのただ中で示している忍耐と信仰とにつき、神の諸教会に対してあなたがたを誇としている。		1:4 so that we ourselves boast about you in the assemblies of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you endure.
1:5これは、あなたがたを、神の国にふさわしい者にしようとする神のさばきが正しいことを、証拠だてるものである。その神の国のために、あなたがたも苦しんでいるのである。		1:5 This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.
1:6すなわち、あなたがたを悩ます者には患難をもって報い、悩まされているあなたがたには、わたしたちと共に、休息をもって報いて下さるのが、神にとって正しいことだからである。		1:6 Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,
1:7それは、主イエスが炎の中で力ある天使たちを率いて天から現れる時に実現する。		1:7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,
1:8その時、主は神を認めない者たちや、わたしたちの主イエスの福音に聞き従わない者たちに報復し、		1:8 giving vengeance to those who don't know God, and to those who don't obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus,
1:9そして、彼らは主のみ顔とその力の栄光から退けられて、永遠の滅びに至る刑罰を受けるであろう。		1:9 who will pay the penalty: eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
1:10その日に、イエスは下ってこられ、聖徒たちの中であがめられ、すべて信じる者たちの間で驚嘆されるであろうわたしたちのこのあかしは、あなたがたによって信じられているのである。		1:10 when he comes to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired among all those who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed) in that day.
1:11このためにまた、わたしたちは、わたしたちの神があなたがたを召しにかなう者となし、善に対するあらゆる願いと信仰の働きとを力強く満たして下さるようにと、あなたがたのために絶えず祈っている。		1:11 To this end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodness and work of faith, with power;
1:12それは、わたしたちの神と主イエス・キリストとの恵みによって、わたしたちの主イエスの御名があなたがたの間であがめられ、あなたがたも主にあって栄光を受けるためである。		1:12 that the name of our Lord Jesus {TR adds "Christ"} may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2:1さて兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの来臨と、わたしたちがみもとに集められることとについて、あなたがたにお願いすることがある。		2:1 Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, we ask you
2:2霊により、あるいは言葉により、あるいはわたしたちから出たという手紙によって、主の日はすでにきたとふれまわる者があっても、すぐさま心を動かされたり、あわてたりしてはいけない。		2:2 not to be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come.
2:3だれがどんな事をしても、それにだまされてはならない。まず背教のことが起り、不法の者、すなわち、滅びの子が現れるにちがいない。		2:3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the departure comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction,
2:4彼は、すべて神と呼ばれたり拝まれたりするものに反抗して立ち上がり、自ら神の宮に座して、自分は神だと宣言する。		2:4 he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God.
2:5わたしがまだあなたがたの所にいた時、これらの事をくり返して言ったのを思い出さないのか。		2:5 Don't you remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things?
2:6そして、あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼が自分に定められた時になってから現れるように、いま彼を阻止しているものがある。		2:6 Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.
2:7不法の秘密の力が、すでに働いているのである。ただそれは、いま阻止している者が取り除かれる時までのことである。		2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way.
2:8その時になると、不法の者が現れる。この者を、主イエスは口の息をもって殺し、来臨の輝きによって滅ぼすであろう。		2:8 Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and destroy by the manifestation of his coming;
2:9不法の者が来るのは、サタンの働きによるのであって、あらゆる偽りの力と、しるしと、不思議と、		2:9 even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2:10また、あらゆる不義の惑わしとを、滅ぶべき者どもに対して行うためである。彼らが滅びるのは、自分らの救となるべき真理に対する愛を受けいれなかった報いである。		2:10 and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn't receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11そこで神は、彼らが偽りを信じるように、迷わす力を送り、		2:11 Because of this, God sends them a working of error, that they should believe a lie;
2:12こうして、真理を信じないで不義を喜んでいたすべての人を、さばくのである。		2:12 that they all might be judged who didn't believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2:13しかし、主に愛されている兄弟たちよ。わたしたちはいつもあなたがたのことを、神に感謝せずにはおられない。それは、神があなたがたを初めから選んで、御霊によるきよめと、真理に対する信仰とによって、救を得させようとし、		2:13 But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth;
2:14そのために、わたしたちの福音によりあなたがたを召して、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの栄光にあずからせて下さるからである。		2:14 to which he called you through our Good News, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2:15そこで、兄弟たちよ。堅く立って、わたしたちの言葉や手紙で教えられた言伝えを、しっかりと守り続けなさい。		2:15 So then, brothers, stand firm, and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word, or by letter.
2:16どうか、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストご自身と、わたしたちを愛し、恵みをもって永遠の慰めと確かな望みとを賜わるわたしたちの父なる神とが、		2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
2:17あなたがたの心を励まし、あなたがたを強めて、すべての良いわざを行い、正しい言葉を語る者として下さるように。		2:17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.
3:1最後に、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちのために祈ってほしい。どうか主の言葉が、あなたがたの所と同じように、ここでも早く広まり、また、あがめられるように。		3:1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified, even as also with you;
3:2また、どうか、わたしたちが不都合な悪人から救われるように。事実、すべての人が信仰を持っているわけではない。		3:2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and evil men; for not all have faith.
3:3しかし、主は真実なかたであるから、あなたがたを強め、悪しき者から守って下さるであろう。		3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one.
3:4わたしたちが命じる事を、あなたがたは現に実行しており、また、実行するであろうと、わたしたちは、主にあって確信している。		3:4 We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you both do and will do the things we command.
3:5どうか、主があなたがたの心を導いて、神の愛とキリストの忍耐とを持たせて下さるように。		3:5 May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of Christ.
3:6兄弟たちよ。主イエス・キリストの名によってあなたがたに命じる。怠惰な生活をして、わたしたちから受けた言伝えに従わないすべての兄弟たちから、遠ざかりなさい。		3:6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks in rebellion, and not after the tradition which they received from us.
3:7わたしたちに、どうならうべきであるかは、あなたがた自身が知っているはずである。あなたがたの所にいた時には、わたしたちは怠惰な生活をしなかったし、		3:7 For you know how you ought to imitate us. For we didn't behave ourselves rebelliously among you,
3:8人からパンをもらって食べることもしなかった。それどころか、あなたがたのだれにも負担をかけまいと、日夜、労苦し努力して働き続けた。		3:8 neither did we eat bread from anyone's hand without paying for it, but in labor and travail worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you;
3:9それは、わたしたちにその権利がないからではなく、ただわたしたちにあなたがたが見習うように、身をもって模範を示したのである。		3:9 not because we don't have the right, but to make ourselves an example to you, that you should imitate us.
3:10また、あなたがたの所にいた時に、「働こうとしない者は、食べることもしてはならない」と命じておいた。		3:10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: "If anyone will not work, neither let him eat."
3:11ところが、聞くところによると、あなたがたのうちのある者は怠惰な生活を送り、働かないで、ただいたずらに動きまわっているとのことである。		3:11 For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don't work at all, but are busybodies.
3:12こうした人々に対しては、静かに働いて自分で得たパンを食べるように、主イエス・キリストによって命じまた勧める。		3:12 Now those who are that way, we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
3:13兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、たゆまずに良い働きをしなさい。		3:13 But you, brothers, don't be weary in doing well.
3:14もしこの手紙にしるしたわたしたちの言葉に聞き従わない人があれば、そのような人には注意をして、交際しないがよい。彼が自ら恥じるようになるためである。		3:14 If any man doesn't obey our word in this letter, note that man, that you have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed.
3:15しかし、彼を敵のように思わないで、兄弟として訓戒しなさい。		3:15 Don't count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
3:16どうか、平和の主ご自身が、いついかなる場合にも、あなたがたに平和を与えて下さるように。主があなたがた一同と共におられるように。		3:16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all.
3:17ここでパウロ自身が、手ずからあいさつを書く。これは、わたしのどの手紙にも書く印である。わたしは、このように書く。		3:17 The greeting of me, Paul, with my own hand, which is the sign in every letter: this is how I write.
3:18どうか、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。		3:18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
