1:3わたしたちは、いつもあなたがたのために祈り、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神に感謝している。		1:3 We give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

1:10主のみこころにかなった生活をして真に主を喜ばせ、あらゆる良いわざを行って実を結び、神を知る知識をいよいよ増し加えるに至ることである。		1:10 that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
1:11更にまた祈るのは、あなたがたが、神の栄光の勢いにしたがって賜わるすべての力によって強くされ、何事も喜んで耐えかつ忍び、		1:11 strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy;
1:12光のうちにある聖徒たちの特権にあずかるに足る者とならせて下さった父なる神に、感謝することである。		1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light;
1:13神は、わたしたちをやみの力から救い出して、その愛する御子の支配下に移して下さった。		1:13 who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love;
1:14わたしたちは、この御子によってあがない、すなわち、罪のゆるしを受けているのである。		1:14 in whom we have our redemption, {TR adds "through his blood,"} the forgiveness of our sins;
1:15御子は、見えない神のかたちであって、すべての造られたものに先だって生れたかたである。		1:15 who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
1:16万物は、天にあるものも地にあるものも、見えるものも見えないものも、位も主権も、支配も権威も、みな御子にあって造られたからである。これらいっさいのものは、御子によって造られ、御子のために造られたのである。		1:16 For by him all things were created, in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and for him.
1:17彼は万物よりも先にあり、万物は彼にあって成り立っている。		1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things are held together.
1:18そして自らは、そのからだなる教会のかしらである。彼は初めの者であり、死人の中から最初に生れたかたである。それは、ご自身がすべてのことにおいて第一の者となるためである。		1:18 He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
1:19神は、御旨によって、御子のうちにすべての満ちみちた徳を宿らせ、		1:19 For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in him;
1:20そして、その十字架の血によって平和をつくり、万物、すなわち、地にあるもの、天にあるものを、ことごとく、彼によってご自分と和解させて下さったのである。		1:20 and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by him, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross.
1:21あなたがたも、かつては悪い行いをして神から離れ、心の中で神に敵対していた。		1:21 You, being in past times alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works,
1:22しかし今では、御子はその肉のからだにより、その死をとおして、あなたがたを神と和解させ、あなたがたを聖なる、傷のない、責められるところのない者として、みまえに立たせて下さったのである。		1:22 yet now he has reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and without blemish and blameless before him,
1:23ただし、あなたがたは、ゆるぐことがなく、しっかりと信仰にふみとどまり、すでに聞いている福音の望みから移り行くことのないようにすべきである。この福音は、天の下にあるすべての造られたものに対して宣べ伝えられたものであって、それにこのパウロが奉仕しているのである。		1:23 if it is so that you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Good News which you heard, which is being proclaimed in all creation under heaven; of which I, Paul, was made a servant.
1:24今わたしは、あなたがたのための苦難を喜んで受けており、キリストのからだなる教会のために、キリストの苦しみのなお足りないところを、わたしの肉体をもって補っている。		1:24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the assembly;
1:25わたしは、神の言を告げひろめる務を、あなたがたのために神から与えられているが、そのために教会に奉仕する者になっているのである。		1:25 of which I was made a servant, according to the stewardship of God which was given me toward you, to fulfill the word of God,
1:26その言の奥義は、代々にわたってこの世から隠されていたが、今や神の聖徒たちに明らかにされたのである。		1:26 the mystery which has been hidden for ages and generations. But now it has been revealed to his saints,
1:27神は彼らに、異邦人の受くべきこの奥義が、いかに栄光に富んだものであるかを、知らせようとされたのである。この奥義は、あなたがたのうちにいますキリストであり、栄光の望みである。		1:27 to whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory;
1:28わたしたちはこのキリストを宣べ伝え、知恵をつくしてすべての人を訓戒し、また、すべての人を教えている。それは、彼らがキリストにあって全き者として立つようになるためである。		1:28 whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus;
1:29わたしはこのために、わたしのうちに力強く働いておられるかたの力により、苦闘しながら努力しているのである。		1:29 for which I also labor, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily.
2:1わたしが、あなたがたとラオデキヤにいる人たちのため、また、直接にはまだ会ったことのない人々のために、どんなに苦闘しているか、わかってもらいたい。		2:1 For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2:2それは彼らが、心を励まされ、愛によって結び合わされ、豊かな理解力を十分に与えられ、神の奥義なるキリストを知るに至るためである。		2:2 that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
2:3キリストのうちには、知恵と知識との宝が、いっさい隠されている。		2:3 in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.
2:4わたしがこう言うのは、あなたがたが、だれにも巧みな言葉で迷わされることのないためである。		2:4 Now this I say that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech.
2:5たとい、わたしは肉体においては離れていても、霊においてはあなたがたと一緒にいて、あなたがたの秩序正しい様子とキリストに対するあなたがたの強固な信仰とを見て、喜んでいる。		2:5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
2:6このように、あなたがたは主キリスト・イエスを受けいれたのだから、彼にあって歩きなさい。		2:6 As therefore you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, walk in him,
2:7また、彼に根ざし、彼にあって建てられ、そして教えられたように、信仰が確立されて、あふれるばかり感謝しなさい。		2:7 rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving.
2:8あなたがたは、むなしいだましごとの哲学で、人のとりこにされないように、気をつけなさい。それはキリストに従わず、世のもろもろの霊力に従う人間の言伝えに基くものにすぎない。		2:8 Be careful that you don't let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ.
2:9キリストにこそ、満ちみちているいっさいの神の徳が、かたちをとって宿っており、		2:9 For in him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily,
2:10そしてあなたがたは、キリストにあって、それに満たされているのである。彼はすべての支配と権威とのかしらであり、		2:10 and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power;
2:11あなたがたはまた、彼にあって、手によらない割礼、すなわち、キリストの割礼を受けて、肉のからだを脱ぎ捨てたのである。		2:11 in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ;
2:12あなたがたはバプテスマを受けて彼と共に葬られ、同時に、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせた神の力を信じる信仰によって、彼と共によみがえらされたのである。		2:12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

2:14神は、わたしたちを責めて不利におとしいれる証書を、その規定もろともぬり消し、これを取り除いて、十字架につけてしまわれた。		2:14 wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross;
2:15そして、もろもろの支配と権威との武装を解除し、キリストにあって凱旋し、彼らをその行列に加えて、さらしものとされたのである。		2:15 having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
2:16だから、あなたがたは、食物と飲み物とにつき、あるいは祭や新月や安息日などについて、だれにも批評されてはならない。		2:16 Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day,
2:17これらは、きたるべきものの影であって、その本体はキリストにある。		2:17 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ's.
2:18あなたがたは、わざとらしい謙そんと天使礼拝とにおぼれている人々から、いろいろと悪評されてはならない。彼らは幻を見たことを重んじ、肉の思いによっていたずらに誇るだけで、		2:18 Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

2:22これらは皆、使えば尽きてしまうもの、人間の規定や教によっているものである。		2:22 (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men?
2:23これらのことは、ひとりよがりの礼拝とわざとらしい謙そんと、からだの苦行とをともなうので、知恵のあるしわざらしく見えるが、実は、ほしいままな肉欲を防ぐのに、なんの役にも立つものではない。		2:23 Which things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but aren't of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
3:1このように、あなたがたはキリストと共によみがえらされたのだから、上にあるものを求めなさい。そこではキリストが神の右に座しておられるのである。		3:1 If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.
3:2あなたがたは上にあるものを思うべきであって、地上のものに心を引かれてはならない。		3:2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth.
3:3あなたがたはすでに死んだものであって、あなたがたのいのちは、キリストと共に神のうちに隠されているのである。		3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
3:4わたしたちのいのちなるキリストが現れる時には、あなたがたも、キリストと共に栄光のうちに現れるであろう。		3:4 When Christ, our life, is revealed, then you will also be revealed with him in glory.
3:5だから、地上の肢体、すなわち、不品行、汚れ、情欲、悪欲、また貪欲を殺してしまいなさい。貪欲は偶像礼拝にほかならない。		3:5 Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;
3:6これらのことのために、神の怒りが下るのである。		3:6 for which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.
3:7あなたがたも、以前これらのうちに日を過ごしていた時には、これらのことをして歩いていた。		3:7 You also once walked in those, when you lived in them;
3:8しかし今は、これらいっさいのことを捨て、怒り、憤り、悪意、そしり、口から出る恥ずべき言葉を、捨ててしまいなさい。		3:8 but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth.
3:9互にうそを言ってはならない。あなたがたは、古き人をその行いと一緒に脱ぎ捨て、		3:9 Don't lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings,
3:10造り主のかたちに従って新しくされ、真の知識に至る新しき人を着たのである。		3:10 and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator,
3:11そこには、もはやギリシヤ人とユダヤ人、割礼と無割礼、未開の人、スクテヤ人、奴隷、自由人の差別はない。キリストがすべてであり、すべてのもののうちにいますのである。		3:11 where there can't be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondservant, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.
3:12だから、あなたがたは、神に選ばれた者、聖なる、愛されている者であるから、あわれみの心、慈愛、謙そん、柔和、寛容を身に着けなさい。		3:12 Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance;
3:13互に忍びあい、もし互に責むべきことがあれば、ゆるし合いなさい。主もあなたがたをゆるして下さったのだから、そのように、あなたがたもゆるし合いなさい。		3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.
3:14これらいっさいのものの上に、愛を加えなさい。愛は、すべてを完全に結ぶ帯である。		3:14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.
3:15キリストの平和が、あなたがたの心を支配するようにしなさい。あなたがたが召されて一体となったのは、このためでもある。いつも感謝していなさい。		3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
3:16キリストの言葉を、あなたがたのうちに豊かに宿らせなさい。そして、知恵をつくして互に教えまた訓戒し、詩とさんびと霊の歌とによって、感謝して心から神をほめたたえなさい。		3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.
3:17そして、あなたのすることはすべて、言葉によるとわざによるとを問わず、いっさい主イエスの名によってなし、彼によって父なる神に感謝しなさい。		3:17 Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.
3:18妻たる者よ、夫に仕えなさい。それが、主にある者にふさわしいことである。		3:18 Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
3:19夫たる者よ、妻を愛しなさい。つらくあたってはいけない。		3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them.
3:20子たる者よ、何事についても両親に従いなさい。これが主に喜ばれることである。		3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord.
3:21父たる者よ、子供をいらだたせてはいけない。心がいじけるかも知れないから。		3:21 Fathers, don't provoke your children, so that they won't be discouraged.
3:22僕たる者よ、何事についても、肉による主人に従いなさい。人にへつらおうとして、目先だけの勤めをするのではなく、真心をこめて主を恐れつつ、従いなさい。		3:22 Servants, obey in all things those who are your masters according to the flesh, not just when they are looking, as men pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God.
3:23何をするにも、人に対してではなく、主に対してするように、心から働きなさい。		3:23 And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men,
3:24あなたがたが知っているとおり、あなたがたは御国をつぐことを、報いとして主から受けるであろう。あなたがたは、主キリストに仕えているのである。		3:24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
3:25不正を行う者は、自分の行った不正に対して報いを受けるであろう。それには差別扱いはない。		3:25 But he who does wrong will receive again for the wrong that he has done, and there is no partiality.
4:1主人たる者よ、僕を正しく公平に扱いなさい。あなたがたにも主が天にいますことが、わかっているのだから。		4:1 Masters, give to your servants that which is just and equal, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
4:2目をさまして、感謝のうちに祈り、ひたすら祈り続けなさい。		4:2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, watching therein with thanksgiving;
4:3同時にわたしたちのためにも、神が御言のために門を開いて下さって、わたしたちがキリストの奥義を語れるように（わたしは、実は、そのために獄につながれているのである）、		4:3 praying together for us also, that God may open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds;
4:4また、わたしが語るべきことをはっきりと語れるように、祈ってほしい。		4:4 that I may reveal it as I ought to speak.
4:5今の時を生かして用い、そとの人に対して賢く行動しなさい。		4:5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.
4:6いつも、塩で味つけられた、やさしい言葉を使いなさい。そうすれば、ひとりびとりに対してどう答えるべきか、わかるであろう。		4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
4:7わたしの様子については、主にあって共に僕であり、また忠実に仕えている愛する兄弟テキコが、あなたがたにいっさいのことを報告するであろう。		4:7 All my affairs will be made known to you by Tychicus, the beloved brother, faithful servant, and fellow bondservant in the Lord.
4:8わたしが彼をあなたがたのもとに送るのは、わたしたちの様子を知り、また彼によって心に励ましを受けるためなのである。		4:8 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts,
4:9あなたがたのひとり、忠実な愛する兄弟オネシモをも、彼と共に送る。彼らはあなたがたに、こちらのいっさいの事情を知らせるであろう。		4:9 together with Onesimus, the faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will make known to you everything that is going on here.

4:13わたしは、彼があなたがたのため、またラオデキヤとヒエラポリスの人々のために、ひじょうに心労していることを、証言する。		4:13 For I testify about him, that he has great zeal for you, and for those in Laodicea, and for those in Hierapolis.
4:14愛する医者ルカとデマスとが、あなたがたによろしく。		4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas greet you.
4:15ラオデキヤの兄弟たちに、またヌンパとその家にある教会とに、よろしく。		4:15 Greet the brothers who are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the assembly that is in his house.
4:16この手紙があなたがたの所で朗読されたら、ラオデキヤの教会でも朗読されるように、取り計らってほしい。またラオデキヤからまわって来る手紙を、あなたがたも朗読してほしい。		4:16 When this letter has been read among you, cause it to be read also in the assembly of the Laodiceans; and that you also read the letter from Laodicea.
4:17アルキポに、「主にあって受けた務をよく果すように」と伝えてほしい。		4:17 Tell Archippus, "Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you fulfill it."
4:18パウロ自身が、手ずからこのあいさつを書く。わたしが獄につながれていることを、覚えていてほしい。恵みが、あなたがたと共にあるように。		4:18 The salutation of me, Paul, with my own hand: remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.
