1:1神の御旨によるキリスト・イエスの使徒パウロから、エペソにいる、キリスト・イエスにあって忠実な聖徒たちへ。		1:1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, to the saints who are at Ephesus, and the faithful in Christ Jesus:
1:2わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。		1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3ほむべきかな、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神。神はキリストにあって、天上で霊のもろもろの祝福をもって、わたしたちを祝福し、		1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ;
1:4みまえにきよく傷のない者となるようにと、天地の造られる前から、キリストにあってわたしたちを選び、		1:4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without blemish before him in love;
1:5わたしたちに、イエス・キリストによって神の子たる身分を授けるようにと、御旨のよしとするところに従い、愛のうちにあらかじめ定めて下さったのである。		1:5 having predestined us for adoption as children through Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his desire,
1:6これは、その愛する御子によって賜わった栄光ある恵みを、わたしたちがほめたたえるためである。		1:6 to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he freely bestowed favor on us in the Beloved,
1:7わたしたちは、御子にあって、神の豊かな恵みのゆえに、その血によるあがない、すなわち、罪過のゆるしを受けたのである。		1:7 in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
1:8神はその恵みをさらに増し加えて、あらゆる知恵と悟りとをわたしたちに賜わり、		1:8 which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,
1:9御旨の奥義を、自らあらかじめ定められた計画に従って、わたしたちに示して下さったのである。		1:9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him
1:10それは、時の満ちるに及んで実現されるご計画にほかならない。それによって、神は天にあるもの地にあるものを、ことごとく、キリストにあって一つに帰せしめようとされたのである。		1:10 to an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things on the earth, in him;
1:11わたしたちは、御旨の欲するままにすべての事をなさるかたの目的の下に、キリストにあってあらかじめ定められ、神の民として選ばれたのである。		1:11 in whom also we were assigned an inheritance, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his will;
1:12それは、早くからキリストに望みをおいているわたしたちが、神の栄光をほめたたえる者となるためである。		1:12 to the end that we should be to the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Christ:
1:13あなたがたもまた、キリストにあって、真理の言葉、すなわち、あなたがたの救の福音を聞き、また、彼を信じた結果、約束された聖霊の証印をおされたのである。		1:13 in whom you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation--in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
1:14この聖霊は、わたしたちが神の国をつぐことの保証であって、やがて神につける者が全くあがなわれ、神の栄光をほめたたえるに至るためである。		1:14 who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of his glory.
1:15こういうわけで、わたしも、主イエスに対するあなたがたの信仰と、すべての聖徒に対する愛とを耳にし、		1:15 For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and the love which you have toward all the saints,
1:16わたしの祈のたびごとにあなたがたを覚えて、絶えずあなたがたのために感謝している。		1:16 don't cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,
1:17どうか、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの神、栄光の父が、知恵と啓示との霊をあなたがたに賜わって神を認めさせ、		1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him;
1:18あなたがたの心の目を明らかにして下さるように、そして、あなたがたが神に召されていだいている望みがどんなものであるか、聖徒たちがつぐべき神の国がいかに栄光に富んだものであるか、		1:18 having the eyes of your hearts {TR reads "understanding" instead of "hearts"} enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
1:19また、神の力強い活動によって働く力が、わたしたち信じる者にとっていかに絶大なものであるかを、あなたがたが知るに至るように、と祈っている。		1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might
1:20神はその力をキリストのうちに働かせて、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせ、天上においてご自分の右に座せしめ、		1:20 which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places,
1:21彼を、すべての支配、権威、権力、権勢の上におき、また、この世ばかりでなくきたるべき世においても唱えられる、あらゆる名の上におかれたのである。		1:21 far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.
1:22そして、万物をキリストの足の下に従わせ、彼を万物の上にかしらとして教会に与えられた。		1:22 He put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the assembly,
1:23この教会はキリストのからだであって、すべてのものを、すべてのもののうちに満たしているかたが、満ちみちているものに、ほかならない。		1:23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
2:1さてあなたがたは、先には自分の罪過と罪とによって死んでいた者であって、		2:1 You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins,
2:2かつてはそれらの中で、この世のならわしに従い、空中の権をもつ君、すなわち、不従順の子らの中に今も働いている霊に従って、歩いていたのである。		2:2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience;
2:3また、わたしたちもみな、かつては彼らの中にいて、肉の欲に従って日を過ごし、肉とその思いとの欲するままを行い、ほかの人々と同じく、生れながらの怒りの子であった。		2:3 among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
2:4しかるに、あわれみに富む神は、わたしたちを愛して下さったその大きな愛をもって、		2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us,
2:5罪過によって死んでいたわたしたちを、キリストと共に生かしあなたがたの救われたのは、恵みによるのである		2:5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
2:6キリスト・イエスにあって、共によみがえらせ、共に天上で座につかせて下さったのである。		2:6 and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
2:7それは、キリスト・イエスにあってわたしたちに賜わった慈愛による神の恵みの絶大な富を、きたるべき世々に示すためであった。		2:7 that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus;
2:8あなたがたの救われたのは、実に、恵みにより、信仰によるのである。それは、あなたがた自身から出たものではなく、神の賜物である。		2:8 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
2:9決して行いによるのではない。それは、だれも誇ることがないためなのである。		2:9 not of works, that no one would boast.
2:10わたしたちは神の作品であって、良い行いをするように、キリスト・イエスにあって造られたのである。神は、わたしたちが、良い行いをして日を過ごすようにと、あらかじめ備えて下さったのである。		2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
2:11だから、記憶しておきなさい。あなたがたは以前には、肉によれば異邦人であって、手で行った肉の割礼ある者と称せられる人々からは、無割礼の者と呼ばれており、		2:11 Therefore remember that once you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "uncircumcision" by that which is called "circumcision," (in the flesh, made by hands);
2:12またその当時は、キリストを知らず、イスラエルの国籍がなく、約束されたいろいろの契約に縁がなく、この世の中で希望もなく神もない者であった。		2:12 that you were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
2:13ところが、あなたがたは、このように以前は遠く離れていたが、今ではキリスト・イエスにあって、キリストの血によって近いものとなったのである。		2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off are made near in the blood of Christ.
2:14キリストはわたしたちの平和であって、二つのものを一つにし、敵意という隔ての中垣を取り除き、ご自分の肉によって、		2:14 For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition,
2:15数々の規定から成っている戒めの律法を廃棄したのである。それは、彼にあって、二つのものをひとりの新しい人に造りかえて平和をきたらせ、		2:15 having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace;
2:16十字架によって、二つのものを一つのからだとして神と和解させ、敵意を十字架にかけて滅ぼしてしまったのである。		2:16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, having killed the hostility thereby.
2:17それから彼は、こられた上で、遠く離れているあなたがたに平和を宣べ伝え、また近くにいる者たちにも平和を宣べ伝えられたのである。		2:17 He came and preached peace to you who were far off and to those who were near.
2:18というのは、彼によって、わたしたち両方の者が一つの御霊の中にあって、父のみもとに近づくことができるからである。		2:18 For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
2:19そこであなたがたは、もはや異国人でも宿り人でもなく、聖徒たちと同じ国籍の者であり、神の家族なのである。		2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,
2:20またあなたがたは、使徒たちや預言者たちという土台の上に建てられたものであって、キリスト・イエスご自身が隅のかしら石である。		2:20 being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone;
2:21このキリストにあって、建物全体が組み合わされ、主にある聖なる宮に成長し、		2:21 in whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord;
2:22そしてあなたがたも、主にあって共に建てられて、霊なる神のすまいとなるのである。		2:22 in whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.
3:1こういうわけで、あなたがた異邦人のためにキリスト・イエスの囚人となっているこのパウロ		3:1 For this cause I, Paul, am the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles,
3:2わたしがあなたがたのために神から賜わった恵みの務について、あなたがたはたしかに聞いたであろう。		3:2 if it is so that you have heard of the administration of that grace of God which was given me toward you;
3:3すなわち、すでに簡単に書きおくったように、わたしは啓示によって奥義を知らされたのである。		3:3 how that by revelation the mystery was made known to me, as I wrote before in few words,
3:4あなたがたはそれを読めば、キリストの奥義をわたしがどう理解しているかがわかる。		3:4 by which, when you read, you can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ;
3:5この奥義は、いまは、御霊によって彼の聖なる使徒たちと預言者たちとに啓示されているが、前の時代には、人の子らに対して、そのように知らされてはいなかったのである。		3:5 which in other generations was not made known to the children of men, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit;
3:6それは、異邦人が、福音によりキリスト・イエスにあって、わたしたちと共に神の国をつぐ者となり、共に一つのからだとなり、共に約束にあずかる者となることである。		3:6 that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of his promise in Christ Jesus through the Good News,
3:7わたしは、神の力がわたしに働いて、自分に与えられた神の恵みの賜物により、福音の僕とされたのである。		3:7 of which I was made a servant, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power.
3:8すなわち、聖徒たちのうちで最も小さい者であるわたしにこの恵みが与えられたが、それは、キリストの無尽蔵の富を異邦人に宣べ伝え、		3:8 To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
3:9更にまた、万物の造り主である神の中に世々隠されていた奥義にあずかる務がどんなものであるかを、明らかに示すためである。		3:9 and to make all men see what is the administration {TR reads "fellowship" instead of "administration"} of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ;
3:10それは今、天上にあるもろもろの支配や権威が、教会をとおして、神の多種多様な知恵を知るに至るためであって、		3:10 to the intent that now through the assembly the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places,
3:11わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにあって実現された神の永遠の目的にそうものである。		3:11 according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord;
3:12この主キリストにあって、わたしたちは、彼に対する信仰によって、確信をもって大胆に神に近づくことができるのである。		3:12 in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.
3:13だから、あなたがたのためにわたしが受けている患難を見て、落胆しないでいてもらいたい。わたしの患難は、あなたがたの光栄なのである。		3:13 Therefore I ask that you may not lose heart at my troubles for you, which are your glory.
3:14こういうわけで、わたしはひざをかがめて、		3:14 For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
3:15天上にあり地上にあって「父」と呼ばれているあらゆるものの源なる父に祈る。		3:15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
3:16どうか父が、その栄光の富にしたがい、御霊により、力をもってあなたがたの内なる人を強くして下さるように、		3:16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man;
3:17また、信仰によって、キリストがあなたがたの心のうちに住み、あなたがたが愛に根ざし愛を基として生活することにより、		3:17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
3:18すべての聖徒と共に、その広さ、長さ、高さ、深さを理解することができ、		3:18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
3:19また人知をはるかに越えたキリストの愛を知って、神に満ちているもののすべてをもって、あなたがたが満たされるように、と祈る。		3:19 and to know Christ's love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
3:20どうか、わたしたちのうちに働く力によって、わたしたちが求めまた思うところのいっさいを、はるかに越えてかなえて下さることができるかたに、		3:20 Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
3:21教会により、また、キリスト・イエスによって、栄光が世々限りなくあるように、アァメン。		3:21 to him be the glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
4:1さて、主にある囚人であるわたしは、あなたがたに勧める。あなたがたが召されたその召しにふさわしく歩き、		4:1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,
4:2できる限り謙虚で、かつ柔和であり、寛容を示し、愛をもって互に忍びあい、		4:2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love;
4:3平和のきずなで結ばれて、聖霊による一致を守り続けるように努めなさい。		4:3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4:4からだは一つ、御霊も一つである。あなたがたが召されたのは、一つの望みを目ざして召されたのと同様である。		4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling;
4:5主は一つ、信仰は一つ、バプテスマは一つ。		4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
4:6すべてのものの上にあり、すべてのものを貫き、すべてのものの内にいます、すべてのものの父なる神は一つである。		4:6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
4:7しかし、キリストから賜わる賜物のはかりに従って、わたしたちひとりびとりに、恵みが与えられている。		4:7 But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
4:8そこで、こう言われている、「彼は高いところに上った時、とりこを捕えて引き行き、人々に賜物を分け与えた」。		4:8 Therefore he says, "When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men." {Psalm 68:18}
4:9さて「上った」と言う以上、また地下の低い底にも降りてこられたわけではないか。		4:9 Now this, "He ascended," what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
4:10降りてこられた者自身は、同時に、あらゆるものに満ちるために、もろもろの天の上にまで上られたかたなのである。		4:10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
4:11そして彼は、ある人を使徒とし、ある人を預言者とし、ある人を伝道者とし、ある人を牧師、教師として、お立てになった。		4:11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds {or, pastors} and teachers;
4:12それは、聖徒たちをととのえて奉仕のわざをさせ、キリストのからだを建てさせ、		4:12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ;
4:13わたしたちすべての者が、神の子を信じる信仰の一致と彼を知る知識の一致とに到達し、全き人となり、ついに、キリストの満ちみちた徳の高さにまで至るためである。		4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
4:14こうして、わたしたちはもはや子供ではないので、だまし惑わす策略により、人々の悪巧みによって起る様々な教の風に吹きまわされたり、もてあそばれたりすることがなく、		4:14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;
4:15愛にあって真理を語り、あらゆる点において成長し、かしらなるキリストに達するのである。		4:15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ;
4:16また、キリストを基として、全身はすべての節々の助けにより、しっかりと組み合わされ結び合わされ、それぞれの部分は分に応じて働き、からだを成長させ、愛のうちに育てられていくのである。		4:16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.
4:17そこで、わたしは主にあっておごそかに勧める。あなたがたは今後、異邦人がむなしい心で歩いているように歩いてはならない。		4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,
4:18彼らの知力は暗くなり、その内なる無知と心の硬化とにより、神のいのちから遠く離れ、		4:18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts;
4:19自ら無感覚になって、ほしいままにあらゆる不潔な行いをして、放縦に身をゆだねている。		4:19 who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
4:20しかしあなたがたは、そのようにキリストに学んだのではなかった。		4:20 But you did not learn Christ that way;
4:21あなたがたはたしかに彼に聞き、彼にあって教えられて、イエスにある真理をそのまま学んだはずである。		4:21 if indeed you heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:
4:22すなわち、あなたがたは、以前の生活に属する、情欲に迷って滅び行く古き人を脱ぎ捨て、		4:22 that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit;
4:23心の深みまで新たにされて、		4:23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
4:24真の義と聖とをそなえた神にかたどって造られた新しき人を着るべきである。		4:24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
4:25こういうわけだから、あなたがたは偽りを捨てて、おのおの隣り人に対して、真実を語りなさい。わたしたちは、お互に肢体なのであるから。		4:25 Therefore putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another.
4:26怒ることがあっても、罪を犯してはならない。憤ったままで、日が暮れるようであってはならない。		4:26 "Be angry, and don't sin." {Psalm 4:4} Don't let the sun go down on your wrath,
4:27また、悪魔に機会を与えてはいけない。		4:27 neither give place to the devil.
4:28盗んだ者は、今後、盗んではならない。むしろ、貧しい人々に分け与えるようになるために、自分の手で正当な働きをしなさい。		4:28 Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.
4:29悪い言葉をいっさい、あなたがたの口から出してはいけない。必要があれば、人の徳を高めるのに役立つような言葉を語って、聞いている者の益になるようにしなさい。		4:29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
4:30神の聖霊を悲しませてはいけない。あなたがたは、あがないの日のために、聖霊の証印を受けたのである。		4:30 Don't grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
4:31すべての無慈悲、憤り、怒り、騒ぎ、そしり、また、いっさいの悪意を捨て去りなさい。		4:31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice.
4:32互に情深く、あわれみ深い者となり、神がキリストにあってあなたがたをゆるして下さったように、あなたがたも互にゆるし合いなさい。		4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
5:1こうして、あなたがたは、神に愛されている子供として、神にならう者になりなさい。		5:1 Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children.
5:2また愛のうちを歩きなさい。キリストもあなたがたを愛して下さって、わたしたちのために、ご自身を、神へのかんばしいかおりのささげ物、また、いけにえとしてささげられたのである。		5:2 Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.
5:3また、不品行といろいろな汚れや貪欲などを、聖徒にふさわしく、あなたがたの間では、口にすることさえしてはならない。		5:3 But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints;
5:4また、卑しい言葉と愚かな話やみだらな冗談を避けなさい。これらは、よろしくない事である。それよりは、むしろ感謝をささげなさい。		5:4 nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks.
5:5あなたがたは、よく知っておかねばならない。すべて不品行な者、汚れたことをする者、貪欲な者、すなわち、偶像を礼拝する者は、キリストと神との国をつぐことができない。		5:5 Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.
5:6あなたがたは、だれにも不誠実な言葉でだまされてはいけない。これらのことから、神の怒りは不従順の子らに下るのである。		5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.
5:7だから、彼らの仲間になってはいけない。		5:7 Therefore don't be partakers with them.
5:8あなたがたは、以前はやみであったが、今は主にあって光となっている。光の子らしく歩きなさい		5:8 For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
5:9光はあらゆる善意と正義と真実との実を結ばせるものである		5:9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,
5:10主に喜ばれるものがなんであるかを、わきまえ知りなさい。		5:10 proving what is well pleasing to the Lord.
5:11実を結ばないやみのわざに加わらないで、むしろ、それを指摘してやりなさい。		5:11 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them.
5:12彼らが隠れて行っていることは、口にするだけでも恥ずかしい事である。		5:12 For the things which are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of.
5:13しかし、光にさらされる時、すべてのものは、明らかになる。		5:13 But all things, when they are reproved, are revealed by the light, for everything that reveals is light.
5:14明らかにされたものは皆、光となるのである。だから、こう書いてある、「眠っている者よ、起きなさい。死人のなかから、立ち上がりなさい。そうすれば、キリストがあなたを照すであろう」。		5:14 Therefore he says, "Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
5:15そこで、あなたがたの歩きかたによく注意して、賢くない者のようにではなく、賢い者のように歩き、		5:15 Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise;
5:16今の時を生かして用いなさい。今は悪い時代なのである。		5:16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
5:17だから、愚かな者にならないで、主の御旨がなんであるかを悟りなさい。		5:17 Therefore don't be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
5:18酒に酔ってはいけない。それは乱行のもとである。むしろ御霊に満たされて、		5:18 Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
5:19詩とさんびと霊の歌とをもって語り合い、主にむかって心からさんびの歌をうたいなさい。		5:19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
5:20そしてすべてのことにつき、いつも、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの御名によって、父なる神に感謝し、		5:20 giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father;
5:21キリストに対する恐れの心をもって、互に仕え合うべきである。		5:21 subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ.
5:22妻たる者よ。主に仕えるように自分の夫に仕えなさい。		5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
5:23キリストが教会のかしらであって、自らは、からだなる教会の救主であられるように、夫は妻のかしらである。		5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.
5:24そして教会がキリストに仕えるように、妻もすべてのことにおいて、夫に仕えるべきである。		5:24 But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything.
5:25夫たる者よ。キリストが教会を愛してそのためにご自身をささげられたように、妻を愛しなさい。		5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it;
5:26キリストがそうなさったのは、水で洗うことにより、言葉によって、教会をきよめて聖なるものとするためであり、		5:26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,
5:27また、しみも、しわも、そのたぐいのものがいっさいなく、清くて傷のない栄光の姿の教会を、ご自分に迎えるためである。		5:27 that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
5:28それと同じく、夫も自分の妻を、自分のからだのように愛さねばならない。自分の妻を愛する者は、自分自身を愛するのである。		5:28 Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.
5:29自分自身を憎んだ者は、いまだかつて、ひとりもいない。かえって、キリストが教会になさったようにして、おのれを育て養うのが常である。		5:29 For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly;
5:30わたしたちは、キリストのからだの肢体なのである。		5:30 because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones.
5:31「それゆえに、人は父母を離れてその妻と結ばれ、ふたりの者は一体となるべきである」。		5:31 "For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh." {Genesis 2:24}
5:32この奥義は大きい。それは、キリストと教会とをさしている。		5:32 This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the assembly.
5:33いずれにしても、あなたがたは、それぞれ、自分の妻を自分自身のように愛しなさい。妻もまた夫を敬いなさい。		5:33 Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
6:1子たる者よ。主にあって両親に従いなさい。これは正しいことである。		6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
6:2「あなたの父と母とを敬え」。これが第一の戒めであって、次の約束がそれについている、		6:2 "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with a promise:
6:3「そうすれば、あなたは幸福になり、地上でながく生きながらえるであろう」。		6:3 "that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth." {Deuteronomy 5:16}
6:4父たる者よ。子供をおこらせないで、主の薫陶と訓戒とによって、彼らを育てなさい。		6:4 You fathers, don't provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
6:5僕たる者よ。キリストに従うように、恐れおののきつつ、真心をこめて、肉による主人に従いなさい。		6:5 Servants, be obedient to those who according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ;
6:6人にへつらおうとして目先だけの勤めをするのでなく、キリストの僕として心から神の御旨を行い、		6:6 not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as men pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
6:7人にではなく主に仕えるように、快く仕えなさい。		6:7 with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men;
6:8あなたがたが知っているとおり、だれでも良いことを行えば、僕であれ、自由人であれ、それに相当する報いを、それぞれ主から受けるであろう。		6:8 knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive the same again from the Lord, whether he is bound or free.
6:9主人たる者よ。僕たちに対して、同様にしなさい。おどすことを、してはならない。あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼らとあなたがたとの主は天にいますのであり、かつ人をかたより見ることをなさらないのである。		6:9 You masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him.
6:10最後に言う。主にあって、その偉大な力によって、強くなりなさい。		6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.
6:11悪魔の策略に対抗して立ちうるために、神の武具で身を固めなさい。		6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12わたしたちの戦いは、血肉に対するものではなく、もろもろの支配と、権威と、やみの世の主権者、また天上にいる悪の霊に対する戦いである。		6:12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
6:13それだから、悪しき日にあたって、よく抵抗し、完全に勝ち抜いて、堅く立ちうるために、神の武具を身につけなさい。		6:13 Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand.
6:14すなわち、立って真理の帯を腰にしめ、正義の胸当を胸につけ、		6:14 Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
6:15平和の福音の備えを足にはき、		6:15 and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace;
6:16その上に、信仰のたてを手に取りなさい。それをもって、悪しき者の放つ火の矢を消すことができるであろう。		6:16 above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.
6:17また、救のかぶとをかぶり、御霊の剣、すなわち、神の言を取りなさい。		6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word {from Greek rhema, which means spoken word} of God;
6:18絶えず祈と願いをし、どんな時でも御霊によって祈り、そのために目をさましてうむことがなく、すべての聖徒のために祈りつづけなさい。		6:18 with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints:
6:19また、わたしが口を開くときに語るべき言葉を賜わり、大胆に福音の奥義を明らかに示しうるように、わたしのためにも祈ってほしい。		6:19 on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Good News,
6:20わたしはこの福音のための使節であり、そして鎖につながれているのであるが、つながれていても、語るべき時には大胆に語れるように祈ってほしい。		6:20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
6:21わたしがどういう様子か、何をしているかを、あなたがたに知ってもらうために、主にあって忠実に仕えている愛する兄弟テキコが、いっさいの事を報告するであろう。		6:21 But that you also may know my affairs, how I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will make known to you all things;
6:22彼をあなたがたのもとに送るのは、あなたがたがわたしたちの様子を知り、また彼によって心に励ましを受けるようになるためなのである。		6:22 whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our state, and that he may comfort your hearts.
6:23父なる神とわたしたちの主イエス・キリストから平安ならびに信仰に伴う愛が、兄弟たちにあるように。		6:23 Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
6:24変らない真実をもって、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストを愛するすべての人々に、恵みがあるように。		6:24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love. Amen.
