1:1神の御旨によりキリスト・イエスの使徒となったパウロと、兄弟テモテとから、コリントにある神の教会、ならびにアカヤ全土にいるすべての聖徒たちへ。		1:1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia:
1:2わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。		1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3ほむべきかな、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神、あわれみ深き父、慰めに満ちたる神。		1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;
1:4神は、いかなる患難の中にいる時でもわたしたちを慰めて下さり、また、わたしたち自身も、神に慰めていただくその慰めをもって、あらゆる患難の中にある人々を慰めることができるようにして下さるのである。		1:4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
1:5それは、キリストの苦難がわたしたちに満ちあふれているように、わたしたちの受ける慰めもまた、キリストによって満ちあふれているからである。		1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ.
1:6わたしたちが患難に会うなら、それはあなたがたの慰めと救とのためであり、慰めを受けるなら、それはあなたがたの慰めのためであって、その慰めは、わたしたちが受けているのと同じ苦難に耐えさせる力となるのである。		1:6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer.
1:7だから、あなたがたに対していだいているわたしたちの望みは、動くことがない。あなたがたが、わたしたちと共に苦難にあずかっているように、慰めにも共にあずかっていることを知っているからである。		1:7 Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort.
1:8兄弟たちよ。わたしたちがアジヤで会った患難を、知らずにいてもらいたくない。わたしたちは極度に、耐えられないほど圧迫されて、生きる望みをさえ失ってしまい、		1:8 For we don't desire to have you uninformed, brothers, {The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.
1:9心のうちで死を覚悟し、自分自身を頼みとしないで、死人をよみがえらせて下さる神を頼みとするに至った。		1:9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead,
1:10神はこのような死の危険から、わたしたちを救い出して下さった、また救い出して下さるであろう。わたしたちは、神が今後も救い出して下さることを望んでいる。		1:10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;
1:11そして、あなたがたもまた祈をもって、ともどもに、わたしたちを助けてくれるであろう。これは多くの人々の願いによりわたしたちに賜わった恵みについて、多くの人が感謝をささげるようになるためである。		1:11 you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your behalf.
1:12さて、わたしたちがこの世で、ことにあなたがたに対し、人間の知恵によってではなく神の恵みによって、神の神聖と真実とによって行動してきたことは、実にわたしたちの誇であって、良心のあかしするところである。		1:12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.
1:13わたしたちが書いていることは、あなたがたが読んで理解できないことではない。それを完全に理解してくれるように、わたしは希望する。		1:13 For we write no other things to you, than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end;
1:14すでにある程度わたしたちを理解してくれているとおり、わたしたちの主イエスの日には、あなたがたがわたしたちの誇であるように、わたしたちもあなたがたの誇なのである。		1:14 as also you acknowledged us in part, that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.
1:15この確信をもって、わたしたちはもう一度恵みを得させたいので、まずあなたがたの所に行き、		1:15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit;
1:16それからそちらを通ってマケドニヤにおもむき、そして再びマケドニヤからあなたがたの所に帰り、あなたがたの見送りを受けてユダヤに行く計画を立てたのである。		1:16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea.
1:17この計画を立てたのは、軽率なことであったであろうか。それとも、自分の計画を肉の思いによって計画したため、わたしの「しかり、しかり」が同時に「否、否」であったのだろうか。		1:17 When I therefore was thus determined, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?"
1:18神の真実にかけて言うが、あなたがたに対するわたしの言葉は、「しかり」と同時に「否」というようなものではない。		1:18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not "Yes and no."
1:19なぜなら、わたしたち、すなわち、わたしとシルワノとテモテとが、あなたがたに宣べ伝えた神の子キリスト・イエスは、「しかり」となると同時に「否」となったのではない。そうではなく、「しかり」がイエスにおいて実現されたのである。		1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes."
1:20なぜなら、神の約束はことごとく、彼において「しかり」となったからである。だから、わたしたちは、彼によって「アァメン」と唱えて、神に栄光を帰するのである。		1:20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the "Yes." Therefore also through him is the "Amen," to the glory of God through us.
1:21あなたがたと共にわたしたちを、キリストのうちに堅くささえ、油をそそいで下さったのは、神である。		1:21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;
1:22神はまた、わたしたちに証印をおし、その保証として、わたしたちの心に御霊を賜わったのである。		1:22 who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.
1:23わたしは自分の魂をかけ、神を証人に呼び求めて言うが、わたしがコリントに行かないでいるのは、あなたがたに対して寛大でありたいためである。		1:23 But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn't come to Corinth to spare you.
1:24わたしたちは、あなたがたの信仰を支配する者ではなく、あなたがたの喜びのために共に働いている者にすぎない。あなたがたは、信仰に堅く立っているからである。		1:24 Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith.
2:1そこでわたしは、あなたがたの所に再び悲しみをもって行くことはすまいと、決心したのである。		2:1 But I determined this for myself, that I would not come to you again in sorrow.
2:2もしあなたがたを悲しませるとすれば、わたしが悲しませているその人以外に、だれがわたしを喜ばせてくれるのか。		2:2 For if I make you sorry, then who will make me glad but he who is made sorry by me?
2:3このような事を書いたのは、わたしが行く時、わたしを喜ばせてくれるはずの人々から、悲しい思いをさせられたくないためである。わたし自身の喜びはあなたがた全体の喜びであることを、あなたがたすべてについて確信しているからである。		2:3 And I wrote this very thing to you, so that, when I came, I wouldn't have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy would be shared by all of you.
2:4わたしは大きな患難と心の憂いの中から、多くの涙をもってあなたがたに書きおくった。それは、あなたがたを悲しませるためではなく、あなたがたに対してあふれるばかりにいだいているわたしの愛を、知ってもらうためであった。		2:4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be made sorry, but that you might know the love that I have so abundantly for you.
2:5しかし、もしだれかが人を悲しませたとすれば、それはわたしを悲しませたのではなく、控え目に言うが、ある程度、あなたがた一同を悲しませたのである。		2:5 But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I not press too heavily) to you all.
2:6その人にとっては、多数の者から受けたあの処罰でもう十分なのだから、		2:6 Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;
2:7あなたがたはむしろ彼をゆるし、また慰めてやるべきである。そうしないと、その人はますます深い悲しみに沈むかも知れない。		2:7 so that on the contrary you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his excessive sorrow.
2:8そこでわたしは、彼に対して愛を示すように、あなたがたに勧める。		2:8 Therefore I beg you to confirm your love toward him.
2:9わたしが書きおくったのも、あなたがたがすべての事について従順であるかどうかを、ためすためにほかならなかった。		2:9 For to this end I also wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things.
2:10もしあなたがたが、何かのことについて人をゆるすなら、わたしもまたゆるそう。そして、もしわたしが何かのことでゆるしたとすれば、それは、あなたがたのためにキリストのみまえでゆるしたのである。		2:10 Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,
2:11そうするのは、サタンに欺かれることのないためである。わたしたちは、彼の策略を知らないわけではない。		2:11 that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
2:12さて、キリストの福音のためにトロアスに行ったとき、わたしのために主の門が開かれたにもかかわらず、		2:12 Now when I came to Troas for the Good News of Christ, and when a door was opened to me in the Lord,
2:13兄弟テトスに会えなかったので、わたしは気が気でなく、人々に別れて、マケドニヤに出かけて行った。		2:13 I had no relief for my spirit, because I didn't find Titus, my brother, but taking my leave of them, I went out into Macedonia.
2:14しかるに、神は感謝すべきかな。神はいつもわたしたちをキリストの凱旋に伴い行き、わたしたちをとおしてキリストを知る知識のかおりを、至る所に放って下さるのである。		2:14 Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place.
2:15わたしたちは、救われる者にとっても滅びる者にとっても、神に対するキリストのかおりである。		2:15 For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved, and in those who perish;
2:16後者にとっては、死から死に至らせるかおりであり、前者にとっては、いのちからいのちに至らせるかおりである。いったい、このような任務に、だれが耐え得ようか。		2:16 to the one a stench from death to death; to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?
2:17しかし、わたしたちは、多くの人のように神の言を売物にせず、真心をこめて、神につかわされた者として神のみまえで、キリストにあって語るのである。		2:17 For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
3:1わたしたちは、またもや、自己推薦をし始めているのだろうか。それとも、ある人々のように、あなたがたにあてた、あるいは、あなたがたからの推薦状が必要なのだろうか。		3:1 Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you?
3:2わたしたちの推薦状は、あなたがたなのである。それは、わたしたちの心にしるされていて、すべての人に知られ、かつ読まれている。		3:2 You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men;
3:3そして、あなたがたは自分自身が、わたしたちから送られたキリストの手紙であって、墨によらず生ける神の霊によって書かれ、石の板にではなく人の心の板に書かれたものであることを、はっきりとあらわしている。		3:3 being revealed that you are a letter of Christ, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh.
3:4こうした確信を、わたしたちはキリストにより神に対していだいている。		3:4 Such confidence we have through Christ toward God;
3:5もちろん、自分自身で事を定める力が自分にある、と言うのではない。わたしたちのこうした力は、神からきている。		3:5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;
3:6神はわたしたちに力を与えて、新しい契約に仕える者とされたのである。それは、文字に仕える者ではなく、霊に仕える者である。文字は人を殺し、霊は人を生かす。		3:6 who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
3:7もし石に彫りつけた文字による死の務が栄光のうちに行われ、そのためイスラエルの子らは、モーセの顔の消え去るべき栄光のゆえに、その顔を見つめることができなかったとすれば、		3:7 But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which was passing away:
3:8まして霊の務は、はるかに栄光あるものではなかろうか。		3:8 won't service of the Spirit be with much more glory?
3:9もし罪を宣告する務が栄光あるものだとすれば、義を宣告する務は、はるかに栄光に満ちたものである。		3:9 For if the service of condemnation has glory, the service of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
3:10そして、すでに栄光を受けたものも、この場合、はるかにまさった栄光のまえに、その栄光を失ったのである。		3:10 For most certainly that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasses.
3:11もし消え去るべきものが栄光をもって現れたのなら、まして永存すべきものは、もっと栄光のあるべきものである。		3:11 For if that which passes away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
3:12こうした望みをいだいているので、わたしたちは思いきって大胆に語り、		3:12 Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,
3:13そしてモーセが、消え去っていくものの最後をイスラエルの子らに見られまいとして、顔におおいをかけたようなことはしない。		3:13 and not as Moses, who put a veil on his face, that the children of Israel wouldn't look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away.
3:14実際、彼らの思いは鈍くなっていた。今日に至るまで、彼らが古い契約を朗読する場合、その同じおおいが取り去られないままで残っている。それは、キリストにあってはじめて取り除かれるのである。		3:14 But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.
3:15今日に至るもなお、モーセの書が朗読されるたびに、おおいが彼らの心にかかっている。		3:15 But to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
3:16しかし主に向く時には、そのおおいは取り除かれる。		3:16 But whenever one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
3:17主は霊である。そして、主の霊のあるところには、自由がある。		3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
3:18わたしたちはみな、顔おおいなしに、主の栄光を鏡に映すように見つつ、栄光から栄光へと、主と同じ姿に変えられていく。これは霊なる主の働きによるのである。		3:18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
4:1このようにわたしたちは、あわれみを受けてこの務についているのだから、落胆せずに、		4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we don't faint.
4:2恥ずべき隠れたことを捨て去り、悪巧みによって歩かず、神の言を曲げず、真理を明らかにし、神のみまえに、すべての人の良心に自分を推薦するのである。		4:2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
4:3もしわたしたちの福音がおおわれているなら、滅びる者どもにとっておおわれているのである。		4:3 Even if our Good News is veiled, it is veiled in those who perish;
4:4彼らの場合、この世の神が不信の者たちの思いをくらませて、神のかたちであるキリストの栄光の福音の輝きを、見えなくしているのである。		4:4 in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.
4:5しかし、わたしたちは自分自身を宣べ伝えるのではなく、主なるキリスト・イエスを宣べ伝える。わたしたち自身は、ただイエスのために働くあなたがたの僕にすぎない。		4:5 For we don't preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake;
4:6「やみの中から光が照りいでよ」と仰せになった神は、キリストの顔に輝く神の栄光の知識を明らかにするために、わたしたちの心を照して下さったのである。		4:6 seeing it is God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness," {Genesis 1:3} who has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
4:7しかしわたしたちは、この宝を土の器の中に持っている。その測り知れない力は神のものであって、わたしたちから出たものでないことが、あらわれるためである。		4:7 But we have this treasure in clay vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves.
4:8わたしたちは、四方から患難を受けても窮しない。途方にくれても行き詰まらない。		4:8 We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair;
4:9迫害に会っても見捨てられない。倒されても滅びない。		4:9 pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed;
4:10いつもイエスの死をこの身に負うている。それはまた、イエスのいのちが、この身に現れるためである。		4:10 always carrying in the body the putting to death of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
4:11わたしたち生きている者は、イエスのために絶えず死に渡されているのである。それはイエスのいのちが、わたしたちの死ぬべき肉体に現れるためである。		4:11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh.
4:12こうして、死はわたしたちのうちに働き、いのちはあなたがたのうちに働くのである。		4:12 So then death works in us, but life in you.
4:13「わたしは信じた。それゆえに語った」としるしてあるとおり、それと同じ信仰の霊を持っているので、わたしたちも信じている。それゆえに語るのである。		4:13 But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, "I believed, and therefore I spoke." {Psalm 116:10} We also believe, and therefore also we speak;
4:14それは、主イエスをよみがえらせたかたが、わたしたちをもイエスと共によみがえらせ、そして、あなたがたと共にみまえに立たせて下さることを、知っているからである。		4:14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will present us with you.
4:15すべてのことは、あなたがたの益であって、恵みがますます多くの人に増し加わるにつれ、感謝が満ちあふれて、神の栄光となるのである。		4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.
4:16だから、わたしたちは落胆しない。たといわたしたちの外なる人は滅びても、内なる人は日ごとに新しくされていく。		4:16 Therefore we don't faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day.
4:17なぜなら、このしばらくの軽い患難は働いて、永遠の重い栄光を、あふれるばかりにわたしたちに得させるからである。		4:17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory;
4:18わたしたちは、見えるものにではなく、見えないものに目を注ぐ。見えるものは一時的であり、見えないものは永遠につづくのである。		4:18 while we don't look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
5:1わたしたちの住んでいる地上の幕屋がこわれると、神からいただく建物、すなわち天にある、人の手によらない永遠の家が備えてあることを、わたしたちは知っている。		5:1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.
5:2そして、天から賜わるそのすみかを、上に着ようと切に望みながら、この幕屋の中で苦しみもだえている。		5:2 For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven;
5:3それを着たなら、裸のままではいないことになろう。		5:3 if so be that being clothed we will not be found naked.
5:4この幕屋の中にいるわたしたちは、重荷を負って苦しみもだえている。それを脱ごうと願うからではなく、その上に着ようと願うからであり、それによって、死ぬべきものがいのちにのまれてしまうためである。		5:4 For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened; not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
5:5わたしたちを、この事にかなう者にして下さったのは、神である。そして、神はその保証として御霊をわたしたちに賜わったのである。		5:5 Now he who made us for this very thing is God, who also gave to us the down payment of the Spirit.
5:6だから、わたしたちはいつも心強い。そして、肉体を宿としている間は主から離れていることを、よく知っている。		5:6 Therefore we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord;
5:7わたしたちは、見えるものによらないで、信仰によって歩いているのである。		5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
5:8それで、わたしたちは心強い。そして、むしろ肉体から離れて主と共に住むことが、願わしいと思っている。		5:8 We are courageous, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.
5:9そういうわけだから、肉体を宿としているにしても、それから離れているにしても、ただ主に喜ばれる者となるのが、心からの願いである。		5:9 Therefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well pleasing to him.
5:10なぜなら、わたしたちは皆、キリストのさばきの座の前にあらわれ、善であれ悪であれ、自分の行ったことに応じて、それぞれ報いを受けねばならないからである。		5:10 For we must all be revealed before the judgment seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
5:11このようにわたしたちは、主の恐るべきことを知っているので、人々に説き勧める。わたしたちのことは、神のみまえには明らかになっている。さらに、あなたがたの良心にも明らかになるようにと望む。		5:11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are revealed to God; and I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences.
5:12わたしたちは、あなたがたに対して、またもや自己推薦をしようとするのではない。ただわたしたちを誇る機会を、あなたがたに持たせ、心を誇るのではなくうわべだけを誇る人々に答えうるようにさせたいのである。		5:12 For we are not commending ourselves to you again, but speak as giving you occasion of boasting on our behalf, that you may have something to answer those who boast in appearance, and not in heart.
5:13もしわたしたちが、気が狂っているのなら、それは神のためであり、気が確かであるのなら、それはあなたがたのためである。		5:13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God. Or if we are of sober mind, it is for you.
5:14なぜなら、キリストの愛がわたしたちに強く迫っているからである。わたしたちはこう考えている。ひとりの人がすべての人のために死んだ以上、すべての人が死んだのである。		5:14 For the love of Christ constrains us; because we judge thus, that one died for all, therefore all died.
5:15そして、彼がすべての人のために死んだのは、生きている者がもはや自分のためにではなく、自分のために死んでよみがえったかたのために、生きるためである。		5:15 He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again.
5:16それだから、わたしたちは今後、だれをも肉によって知ることはすまい。かつてはキリストを肉によって知っていたとしても、今はもうそのような知り方をすまい。		5:16 Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.
5:17だれでもキリストにあるならば、その人は新しく造られた者である。古いものは過ぎ去った、見よ、すべてが新しくなったのである。		5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
5:18しかし、すべてこれらの事は、神から出ている。神はキリストによって、わたしたちをご自分に和解させ、かつ和解の務をわたしたちに授けて下さった。		5:18 But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation;
5:19すなわち、神はキリストにおいて世をご自分に和解させ、その罪過の責任をこれに負わせることをしないで、わたしたちに和解の福音をゆだねられたのである。		5:19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.
5:20神がわたしたちをとおして勧めをなさるのであるから、わたしたちはキリストの使者なのである。そこで、キリストに代って願う、神の和解を受けなさい。		5:20 We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
5:21神はわたしたちの罪のために、罪を知らないかたを罪とされた。それは、わたしたちが、彼にあって神の義となるためなのである。		5:21 For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

6:2神はこう言われる、「わたしは、恵みの時にあなたの願いを聞きいれ、救の日にあなたを助けた」。見よ、今は恵みの時、見よ、今は救の日である。		6:2 for he says, "At an acceptable time I listened to you, in a day of salvation I helped you." {Isaiah 49:8} Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.
6:3この務がそしりを招かないために、わたしたちはどんな事にも、人につまずきを与えないようにし、		6:3 We give no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our service may not be blamed,
6:4かえって、あらゆる場合に、神の僕として、自分を人々にあらわしている。すなわち、極度の忍苦にも、患難にも、危機にも、行き詰まりにも、		6:4 but in everything commending ourselves, as servants of God, in great endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses,
6:5むち打たれることにも、入獄にも、騒乱にも、労苦にも、徹夜にも、飢餓にも、		6:5 in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in labors, in watchings, in fastings;
6:6真実と知識と寛容と、慈愛と聖霊と偽りのない愛と、		6:6 in pureness, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in sincere love,
6:7真理の言葉と神の力とにより、左右に持っている義の武器により、		6:7 in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
6:8ほめられても、そしられても、悪評を受けても、好評を博しても、神の僕として自分をあらわしている。わたしたちは、人を惑わしているようであるが、しかも真実であり、		6:8 by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true;
6:9人に知られていないようであるが、認められ、死にかかっているようであるが、見よ、生きており、懲らしめられているようであるが、殺されず、		6:9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and not killed;
6:10悲しんでいるようであるが、常に喜んでおり、貧しいようであるが、多くの人を富ませ、何も持たないようであるが、すべての物を持っている。		6:10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
6:11コリントの人々よ。あなたがたに向かってわたしたちの口は開かれており、わたしたちの心は広くなっている。		6:11 Our mouth is open to you, Corinthians. Our heart is enlarged.
6:12あなたがたは、わたしたちに心をせばめられていたのではなく、自分で心をせばめていたのだ。		6:12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.
6:13わたしは子供たちに対するように言うが、どうかあなたがたの方でも心を広くして、わたしに応じてほしい。		6:13 Now in return, I speak as to my children, you also be open wide.
6:14不信者と、つり合わないくびきを共にするな。義と不義となんの係わりがあるか。光とやみとなんの交わりがあるか。		6:14 Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
6:15キリストとベリアルとなんの調和があるか。信仰と不信仰となんの関係があるか。		6:15 What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?
6:16神の宮と偶像となんの一致があるか。わたしたちは、生ける神の宮である。神がこう仰せになっている、「わたしは彼らの間に住み、かつ出入りをするであろう。そして、わたしは彼らの神となり、彼らはわたしの民となるであろう」。		6:16 What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people." {Leviticus 26:12; Jeremiah 32:38; Ezekiel 37:27}

7:2どうか、わたしたちに心を開いてほしい。わたしたちは、だれにも不義をしたことがなく、だれをも破滅におとしいれたことがなく、だれからもだまし取ったことがない。		7:2 Open your hearts to us. We wronged no one. We corrupted no one. We took advantage of no one.
7:3わたしは、責めるつもりでこう言うのではない。前にも言ったように、あなたがたはわたしの心のうちにいて、わたしたちと生死を共にしているのである。		7:3 I say this not to condemn you, for I have said before, that you are in our hearts to die together and live together.
7:4わたしはあなたがたを大いに信頼し、大いに誇っている。また、あふれるばかり慰めを受け、あらゆる患難の中にあって喜びに満ちあふれている。		7:4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you. Great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I overflow with joy in all our affliction.
7:5さて、マケドニヤに着いたとき、わたしたちの身に少しの休みもなく、さまざまの患難に会い、外には戦い、内には恐れがあった。		7:5 For even when we had come into Macedonia, our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side. Fightings were outside. Fear was inside.
7:6しかるに、うちしおれている者を慰める神は、テトスの到来によって、わたしたちを慰めて下さった。		7:6 Nevertheless, he who comforts the lowly, God, comforted us by the coming of Titus;
7:7ただ彼の到来によるばかりではなく、彼があなたがたから受けたその慰めをもって、慰めて下さった。すなわち、あなたがたがわたしを慕っていること、嘆いていること、またわたしに対して熱心であることを知らせてくれたので、わたしの喜びはいよいよ増し加わったのである。		7:7 and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, while he told us of your longing, your mourning, and your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced still more.
7:8そこで、たとい、あの手紙であなたがたを悲しませたとしても、わたしはそれを悔いていない。あの手紙がしばらくの間ではあるが、あなたがたを悲しませたのを見て悔いたとしても、		7:8 For though I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I see that my letter made you sorry, though just for a while.
7:9今は喜んでいる。それは、あなたがたが悲しんだからではなく、悲しんで悔い改めるに至ったからである。あなたがたがそのように悲しんだのは、神のみこころに添うたことであって、わたしたちからはなんの損害も受けなかったのである。		7:9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that you were made sorry to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly way, that you might suffer loss by us in nothing.
7:10神のみこころに添うた悲しみは、悔いのない救を得させる悔改めに導き、この世の悲しみは死をきたらせる。		7:10 For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world works death.
7:11見よ、神のみこころに添うたその悲しみが、どんなにか熱情をあなたがたに起させたことか。また、弁明、義憤、恐れ、愛慕、熱意、それから処罰に至らせたことか。あなたがたはあの問題については、すべての点において潔白であることを証明したのである。		7:11 For behold, this same thing, that you were made sorry in a godly way, what earnest care it worked in you. Yes, what defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, and vengeance! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in the matter.
7:12だから、わたしがあなたがたに書きおくったのは、不義をした人のためでも、不義を受けた人のためでもなく、わたしたちに対するあなたがたの熱情が、神の前にあなたがたの間で明らかになるためである。		7:12 So although I wrote to you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be revealed in you in the sight of God.
7:13こういうわけで、わたしたちは慰められたのである。これらの慰めの上にテトスの喜びが加わって、わたしたちはなおいっそう喜んだ。彼があなたがた一同によって安心させられたからである。		7:13 Therefore we have been comforted. In our comfort we rejoiced the more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.
7:14そして、わたしは彼に対してあなたがたのことを少しく誇ったが、それはわたしの恥にならないですんだ。あなたがたにいっさいのことを真実に語ったように、テトスに対して誇ったことも真実となってきたのである。		7:14 For if in anything I have boasted to him on your behalf, I was not disappointed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, so our glorying also which I made before Titus was found to be truth.
7:15また彼は、あなたがた一同が従順であって、おそれおののきつつ自分を迎えてくれたことを思い出して、ますます心をあなたがたの方に寄せている。		7:15 His affection is more abundantly toward you, while he remembers all of your obedience, how with fear and trembling you received him.
7:16わたしは、あなたがたに全く信頼することができて、喜んでいる。		7:16 I rejoice that in everything I am confident concerning you.
8:1兄弟たちよ。わたしたちはここで、マケドニヤの諸教会に与えられた神の恵みを、あなたがたに知らせよう。		8:1 Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia;
8:2すなわち、彼らは、患難のために激しい試錬をうけたが、その満ちあふれる喜びは、極度の貧しさにもかかわらず、あふれ出て惜しみなく施す富となったのである。		8:2 how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality.
8:3わたしはあかしするが、彼らは力に応じて、否、力以上に施しをした。すなわち、自ら進んで、		8:3 For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord,
8:4聖徒たちへの奉仕に加わる恵みにあずかりたいと、わたしたちに熱心に願い出て、		8:4 begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints.
8:5わたしたちの希望どおりにしたばかりか、自分自身をまず、神のみこころにしたがって、主にささげ、また、わたしたちにもささげたのである。		8:5 This was not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.
8:6そこで、この募金をテトスがあなたがたの所で、すでに始めた以上、またそれを完成するようにと、わたしたちは彼に勧めたのである。		8:6 So we urged Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace.
8:7さて、あなたがたがあらゆる事がらについて富んでいるように、すなわち、信仰にも言葉にも知識にも、あらゆる熱情にも、また、あなたがたに対するわたしたちの愛にも富んでいるように、この恵みのわざにも富んでほしい。		8:7 But as you abound in everything, in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that you also abound in this grace.
8:8こう言っても、わたしは命令するのではない。ただ、他の人たちの熱情によって、あなたがたの愛の純真さをためそうとするのである。		8:8 I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love.
8:9あなたがたは、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの恵みを知っている。すなわち、主は富んでおられたのに、あなたがたのために貧しくなられた。それは、あなたがたが、彼の貧しさによって富む者になるためである。		8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.
8:10そこで、わたしは、この恵みのわざについて意見を述べよう。それがあなたがたの益になるからである。あなたがたはこの事を、昨年以来、他に先んじて実行したばかりではなく、それを願っていた。		8:10 I give a judgment in this: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to start a year ago, not only to do, but also to be willing.
8:11だから今、それをやりとげなさい。あなたがたが心から願っているように、持っているところに応じて、それをやりとげなさい。		8:11 But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability.
8:12もし心から願ってそうするなら、持たないところによらず、持っているところによって、神に受けいれられるのである。		8:12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you don't have.
8:13それは、ほかの人々に楽をさせて、あなたがたに苦労をさせようとするのではなく、持ち物を等しくするためである。		8:13 For this is not that others may be eased and you distressed,
8:14すなわち、今の場合は、あなたがたの余裕があの人たちの欠乏を補い、後には、彼らの余裕があなたがたの欠乏を補い、こうして等しくなるようにするのである。		8:14 but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack; that there may be equality.
8:15それは「多く得た者も余ることがなく、少ししか得なかった者も足りないことはなかった」と書いてあるとおりである。		8:15 As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack." {Exodus 16:8}
8:16わたしがあなたがたに対して持っている同じ熱情を、テトスの心にも与えて下さった神に感謝する。		8:16 But thanks be to God, who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus.
8:17彼はわたしの勧めを受けいれ、そして更に熱心になって、自分から進んであなたがたのところに行った。		8:17 For he indeed accepted our exhortation, but being himself very earnest, he went out to you of his own accord.
8:18わたしたちはまた、テトスと一緒に、ひとりの兄弟を送る。この兄弟が福音宣伝の上で得たほまれは、すべての教会に聞えているが、		8:18 We have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the Good News is known through all the assemblies.
8:19そのうえ、彼は、主ご自身の栄光があらわれるため、また、わたしたちの好意を示すために、骨を折って贈り物を集めているわたしたちの同伴者として、諸教会から選ばれたのである。		8:19 Not only so, but who was also appointed by the assemblies to travel with us in this grace, which is served by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and to show our readiness.
8:20そうしたのは、わたしたちが集めているこの寄附金のことについて、人にかれこれ言われるのを避けるためである。		8:20 We are avoiding this, that any man should blame us concerning this abundance which is administered by us.
8:21わたしたちは、主のみまえばかりではなく、人の前でも公正であるように、気を配っているのである。		8:21 Having regard for honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
8:22また、もうひとりの兄弟を彼らと一緒に送る。わたしたちは、多くの事について彼が熱心であったことを、たびたび認めた。彼は今、あなたがたを非常に信頼して、ますます熱心になっている。		8:22 We have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he has in you.
8:23テトスについて言えば、彼はわたしの仲間であり、あなたがたに対するわたしの協力者である。この兄弟たちについて言えば、彼らは諸教会の使者、キリストの栄光である。		8:23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you. As for our brothers, they are the apostles of the assemblies, the glory of Christ.
8:24だから、あなたがたの愛と、また、あなたがたについてわたしたちがいだいている誇とが、真実であることを、諸教会の前で彼らにあかししていただきたい。		8:24 Therefore show the proof of your love to them in front of the assemblies, and of our boasting on your behalf.
9:1聖徒たちに対する援助については、いまさら、あなたがたに書きおくる必要はない。		9:1 It is indeed unnecessary for me to write to you concerning the service to the saints,
9:2わたしは、あなたがたの好意を知っており、そのために、あなたがたのことをマケドニヤの人々に誇って、アカヤでは昨年以来、すでに準備をしているのだと言った。そして、あなたがたの熱心は、多くの人を奮起させたのである。		9:2 for I know your readiness, of which I boast on your behalf to them of Macedonia, that Achaia has been prepared for a year past. Your zeal has stirred up very many of them.
9:3わたしが兄弟たちを送ることにしたのは、あなたがたについてわたしたちの誇ったことが、この場合むなしくならないで、わたしが言ったとおり準備していてもらいたいからである。		9:3 But I have sent the brothers that our boasting on your behalf may not be in vain in this respect, that, just as I said, you may be prepared,
9:4そうでないと、万一マケドニヤ人がわたしと一緒に行って、準備ができていないのを見たら、あなたがたはもちろん、わたしたちも、かように信じきっていただけに、恥をかくことになろう。		9:4 so that I won't by any means, if there come with me any of Macedonia and find you unprepared, we (to say nothing of you) should be disappointed in this confident boasting.
9:5だから、わたしは兄弟たちを促して、あなたがたの所へ先に行かせ、以前あなたがたが約束していた贈り物の準備をさせておくことが必要だと思った。それをしぶりながらではなく、心をこめて用意していてほしい。		9:5 I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brothers that they would go before to you, and arrange ahead of time the generous gift that you promised before, that the same might be ready as a matter of generosity, and not of greediness.
9:6わたしの考えはこうである。少ししかまかない者は、少ししか刈り取らず、豊かにまく者は、豊かに刈り取ることになる。		9:6 Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
9:7各自は惜しむ心からでなく、また、しいられてでもなく、自ら心で決めたとおりにすべきである。神は喜んで施す人を愛して下さるのである。		9:7 Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.
9:8神はあなたがたにあらゆる恵みを豊かに与え、あなたがたを常にすべてのことに満ち足らせ、すべての良いわざに富ませる力のあるかたなのである。		9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work.
9:9「彼は貧しい人たちに散らして与えた。その義は永遠に続くであろう」と書いてあるとおりである。		9:9 As it is written, "He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever." {Psalm 112:9}
9:10種まく人に種と食べるためのパンとを備えて下さるかたは、あなたがたにも種を備え、それをふやし、そしてあなたがたの義の実を増して下さるのである。		9:10 Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;
9:11こうして、あなたがたはすべてのことに豊かになって、惜しみなく施し、その施しはわたしたちの手によって行われ、神に感謝するに至るのである。		9:11 you being enriched in everything to all liberality, which works through us thanksgiving to God.
9:12なぜなら、この援助の働きは、聖徒たちの欠乏を補うだけではなく、神に対する多くの感謝によってますます豊かになるからである。		9:12 For this service of giving that you perform not only makes up for lack among the saints, but abounds also through many givings of thanks to God;
9:13すなわち、この援助を行った結果として、あなたがたがキリストの福音の告白に対して従順であることや、彼らにも、すべての人にも、惜しみなく施しをしていることがわかってきて、彼らは神に栄光を帰し、		9:13 seeing that through the proof given by this service, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the Good News of Christ, and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all;
9:14そして、あなたがたに賜わったきわめて豊かな神の恵みのゆえに、あなたがたを慕い、あなたがたのために祈るのである。		9:14 while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, yearn for you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.
9:15言いつくせない賜物のゆえに、神に感謝する。		9:15 Now thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift!
10:1さて、「あなたがたの間にいて面と向かってはおとなしいが、離れていると、気が強くなる」このパウロが、キリストの優しさ、寛大さをもって、あなたがたに勧める。		10:1 Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ; I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.

10:3わたしたちは、肉にあって歩いてはいるが、肉に従って戦っているのではない。		10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we don't wage war according to the flesh;
10:4わたしたちの戦いの武器は、肉のものではなく、神のためには要塞をも破壊するほどの力あるものである。わたしたちはさまざまな議論を破り、		10:4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds,
10:5神の知恵に逆らって立てられたあらゆる障害物を打ちこわし、すべての思いをとりこにしてキリストに服従させ、		10:5 throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;
10:6そして、あなたがたが完全に服従した時、すべて不従順な者を処罰しようと、用意しているのである。		10:6 and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience will be made full.
10:7あなたがたは、うわべの事だけを見ている。もしある人が、キリストに属する者だと自任しているなら、その人はもう一度よく反省すべきである。その人がキリストに属する者であるように、わたしたちもそうである。		10:7 Do you look at things only as they appear in front of your face? If anyone trusts in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ's, so also we are Christ's.
10:8たとい、あなたがたを倒すためではなく高めるために主からわたしたちに賜わった権威について、わたしがやや誇りすぎたとしても、恥にはなるまい。		10:8 For though I should boast somewhat abundantly concerning our authority, (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down) I will not be disappointed,
10:9ただ、わたしは、手紙であなたがたをおどしているのだと、思われたくはない。		10:9 that I may not seem as if I desire to terrify you by my letters.
10:10人は言う、「彼の手紙は重味があって力強いが、会って見ると外見は弱々しく、話はつまらない」。		10:10 For, "His letters," they say, "are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised."

10:12わたしたちは、自己推薦をするような人々と自分を同列においたり比較したりはしない。彼らは仲間同志で互にはかり合ったり、互に比べ合ったりしているが、知恵のないしわざである。		10:12 For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.
10:13しかし、わたしたちは限度をこえて誇るようなことはしない。むしろ、神が割り当てて下さった地域の限度内で誇るにすぎない。わたしはその限度にしたがって、あなたがたの所まで行ったのである。		10:13 But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you.
10:14わたしたちは、あなたがたの所まで行けない者であるかのように、むりに手を延ばしているのではない。事実、わたしたちが最初にキリストの福音を携えて、あなたがたの所までも行ったのである。		10:14 For we don't stretch ourselves too much, as though we didn't reach to you. For we came even as far as to you with the Good News of Christ,
10:15わたしたちは限度をこえて、他人の働きを誇るようなことはしない。ただ、あなたがたの信仰が成長するにつれて、わたしたちの働きの範囲があなたがたの中でますます大きくなることを望んでいる。		10:15 not boasting beyond proper limits in other men's labors, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence,
10:16こうして、わたしたちはほかの人の地域ですでになされていることを誇ることはせずに、あなたがたを越えたさきざきにまで、福音を宣べ伝えたい。		10:16 so as to preach the Good News even to the parts beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done.
10:17誇る者は主を誇るべきである。		10:17 But "he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord." {Jeremiah 9:24}
10:18自分で自分を推薦する人ではなく、主に推薦される人こそ、確かな人なのである。		10:18 For it isn't he who commends himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
11:1わたしが少しばかり愚かなことを言うのを、どうか、忍んでほしい。もちろん忍んでくれるのだ。		11:1 I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness, but indeed you do bear with me.
11:2わたしは神の熱情をもって、あなたがたを熱愛している。あなたがたを、きよいおとめとして、ただひとりの男子キリストにささげるために、婚約させたのである。		11:2 For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I married you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
11:3ただ恐れるのは、エバがへびの悪巧みで誘惑されたように、あなたがたの思いが汚されて、キリストに対する純情と貞操とを失いはしないかということである。		11:3 But I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
11:4というのは、もしある人がきて、わたしたちが宣べ伝えもしなかったような異なるイエスを宣べ伝え、あるいは、あなたがたが受けたことのない違った霊を受け、あるいは、受けいれたことのない違った福音を聞く場合に、あなたがたはよくもそれを忍んでいる。		11:4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you did not receive, or a different "good news", which you did not accept, you put up with that well enough.
11:5事実、わたしは、あの大使徒たちにいささかも劣ってはいないと思う。		11:5 For I reckon that I am not at all behind the very best apostles.
11:6たとい弁舌はつたなくても、知識はそうでない。わたしは、事ごとに、いろいろの場合に、あなたがたに対してそれを明らかにした。		11:6 But though I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not unskilled in knowledge. No, in every way we have been revealed to you in all things.
11:7それとも、あなたがたを高めるために自分を低くして、神の福音を価なしにあなたがたに宣べ伝えたことが、罪になるのだろうか。		11:7 Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached to you God's Good News free of charge?
11:8わたしは他の諸教会をかすめたと言われながら得た金で、あなたがたに奉仕し、		11:8 I robbed other assemblies, taking wages from them that I might serve you.
11:9あなたがたの所にいて貧乏をした時にも、だれにも負担をかけたことはなかった。わたしの欠乏は、マケドニヤからきた兄弟たちが、補ってくれた。こうして、わたしはすべての事につき、あなたがたに重荷を負わせまいと努めてきたし、今後も努めよう。		11:9 When I was present with you and was in need, I wasn't a burden on anyone, for the brothers, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my need. In everything I kept myself from being burdensome to you, and I will continue to do so.
11:10わたしの内にあるキリストの真実にかけて言う、この誇がアカヤ地方で封じられるようなことは、決してない。		11:10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no one will stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia.
11:11なぜであるか。わたしがあなたがたを愛していないからか。それは、神がご存じである。		11:11 Why? Because I don't love you? God knows.
11:12しかし、わたしは、現在していることを今後もしていこう。それは、わたしたちと同じように誇りうる立ち場を得ようと機会をねらっている者どもから、その機会を断ち切ってしまうためである。		11:12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them that desire an occasion, that in which they boast, they may be found even as we.
11:13こういう人々はにせ使徒、人をだます働き人であって、キリストの使徒に擬装しているにすぎないからである。		11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ's apostles.
11:14しかし、驚くには及ばない。サタンも光の天使に擬装するのだから。		11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.
11:15だから、たといサタンの手下どもが、義の奉仕者のように擬装したとしても、不思議ではない。彼らの最期は、そのしわざに合ったものとなろう。		11:15 It is no great thing therefore if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.
11:16繰り返して言うが、だれも、わたしを愚か者と思わないでほしい。もしそう思うなら、愚か者あつかいにされてもよいから、わたしにも、少し誇らせてほしい。		11:16 I say again, let no one think me foolish. But if so, yet receive me as foolish, that I also may boast a little.
11:17いま言うことは、主によって言うのではなく、愚か者のように、自分の誇とするところを信じきって言うのである。		11:17 That which I speak, I don't speak according to the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting.
11:18多くの人が肉によって誇っているから、わたしも誇ろう。		11:18 Seeing that many boast after the flesh, I will also boast.
11:19あなたがたは賢い人たちなのだから、喜んで愚か者を忍んでくれるだろう。		11:19 For you bear with the foolish gladly, being wise.
11:20実際、あなたがたは奴隷にされても、食い倒されても、略奪されても、いばられても、顔をたたかれても、それを忍んでいる。		11:20 For you bear with a man, if he brings you into bondage, if he devours you, if he takes you captive, if he exalts himself, if he strikes you on the face.
11:21言うのも恥ずかしいことだが、わたしたちは弱すぎたのだ。もしある人があえて誇るなら、わたしは愚か者になって言うが、わたしもあえて誇ろう。		11:21 I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet however any is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also.
11:22彼らはヘブル人なのか。わたしもそうである。彼らはイスラエル人なのか。わたしもそうである。彼らはアブラハムの子孫なのか。わたしもそうである。		11:22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I.
11:23彼らはキリストの僕なのか。わたしは気が狂ったようになって言う、わたしは彼ら以上にそうである。苦労したことはもっと多く、投獄されたことももっと多く、むち打たれたことは、はるかにおびただしく、死に面したこともしばしばあった。		11:23 Are they servants of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I am more so; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths often.
11:24ユダヤ人から四十に一つ足りないむちを受けたことが五度、		11:24 Five times from the Jews I received forty stripes minus one.
11:25ローマ人にむちで打たれたことが三度、石で打たれたことが一度、難船したことが三度、そして、一昼夜、海の上を漂ったこともある。		11:25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I suffered shipwreck. I have been a night and a day in the deep.
11:26幾たびも旅をし、川の難、盗賊の難、同国民の難、異邦人の難、都会の難、荒野の難、海上の難、にせ兄弟の難に会い、		11:26 I have been in travels often, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from my countrymen, perils from the Gentiles, perils in the city, perils in the wilderness, perils in the sea, perils among false brothers;
11:27労し苦しみ、たびたび眠られぬ夜を過ごし、飢えかわき、しばしば食物がなく、寒さに凍え、裸でいたこともあった。		11:27 in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, and in cold and nakedness.
11:28なおいろいろの事があった外に、日々わたしに迫って来る諸教会の心配ごとがある。		11:28 Besides those things that are outside, there is that which presses on me daily, anxiety for all the assemblies.
11:29だれかが弱っているのに、わたしも弱らないでおれようか。だれかが罪を犯しているのに、わたしの心が燃えないでおれようか。		11:29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is caused to stumble, and I don't burn with indignation?
11:30もし誇らねばならないのなら、わたしは自分の弱さを誇ろう。		11:30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that concern my weakness.
11:31永遠にほむべき、主イエス・キリストの父なる神は、わたしが偽りを言っていないことを、ご存じである。		11:31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, he who is blessed forevermore, knows that I don't lie.
11:32ダマスコでアレタ王の代官が、わたしを捕えるためにダマスコ人の町を監視したことがあったが、		11:32 In Damascus the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of the Damascenes desiring to arrest me.
11:33その時わたしは窓から町の城壁づたいに、かごでつり降ろされて、彼の手からのがれた。		11:33 Through a window I was let down in a basket by the wall, and escaped his hands.
12:1わたしは誇らざるを得ないので、無益ではあろうが、主のまぼろしと啓示とについて語ろう。		12:1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. For I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
12:2わたしはキリストにあるひとりの人を知っている。この人は十四年前に第三の天にまで引き上げられたそれが、からだのままであったか、わたしは知らない。からだを離れてであったか、それも知らない。神がご存じである。		12:2 I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I don't know, or whether out of the body, I don't know; God knows), such a one caught up into the third heaven.
12:3この人がそれが、からだのままであったか、からだを離れてであったか、わたしは知らない。神がご存じである		12:3 I know such a man (whether in the body, or outside of the body, I don't know; God knows),
12:4パラダイスに引き上げられ、そして口に言い表わせない、人間が語ってはならない言葉を聞いたのを、わたしは知っている。		12:4 how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
12:5わたしはこういう人について誇ろう。しかし、わたし自身については、自分の弱さ以外には誇ることをすまい。		12:5 On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in my weaknesses.
12:6もっとも、わたしが誇ろうとすれば、ほんとうの事を言うのだから、愚か者にはならないだろう。しかし、それはさし控えよう。わたしがすぐれた啓示を受けているので、わたしについて見たり聞いたりしている以上に、人に買いかぶられるかも知れないから。		12:6 For if I would desire to boast, I will not be foolish; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, so that no man may think more of me than that which he sees in me, or hears from me.
12:7そこで、高慢にならないように、わたしの肉体に一つのとげが与えられた。それは、高慢にならないように、わたしを打つサタンの使なのである。		12:7 By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively.
12:8このことについて、わたしは彼を離れ去らせて下さるようにと、三度も主に祈った。		12:8 Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
12:9ところが、主が言われた、「わたしの恵みはあなたに対して十分である。わたしの力は弱いところに完全にあらわれる」。それだから、キリストの力がわたしに宿るように、むしろ、喜んで自分の弱さを誇ろう。		12:9 He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
12:10だから、わたしはキリストのためならば、弱さと、侮辱と、危機と、迫害と、行き詰まりとに甘んじよう。なぜなら、わたしが弱い時にこそ、わたしは強いからである。		12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.
12:11わたしは愚か者となった。あなたがたが、むりにわたしをそうしてしまったのだ。実際は、あなたがたから推薦されるべきであった。というのは、たといわたしは取るに足りない者だとしても、あの大使徒たちにはなんら劣るところがないからである。		12:11 I have become foolish in boasting. You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for in nothing was I inferior to the very best apostles, though I am nothing.
12:12わたしは、使徒たるの実を、しるしと奇跡と力あるわざとにより、忍耐をつくして、あなたがたの間であらわしてきた。		12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were worked among you in all patience, in signs and wonders and mighty works.
12:13いったい、あなたがたが他の教会よりも劣っている点は何か。ただ、このわたしがあなたがたに負担をかけなかったことだけではないか。この不義は、どうか、ゆるしてもらいたい。		12:13 For what is there in which you were made inferior to the rest of the assemblies, unless it is that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong.
12:14さて、わたしは今、三度目にあなたがたの所に行く用意をしている。しかし、負担はかけないつもりである。わたしの求めているのは、あなたがたの持ち物ではなく、あなたがた自身なのだから。いったい、子供は親のために財をたくわえて置く必要はなく、親が子供のためにたくわえて置くべきである。		12:14 Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you; for I seek not your possessions, but you. For the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
12:15そこでわたしは、あなたがたの魂のためには、大いに喜んで費用を使い、また、わたし自身をも使いつくそう。わたしがあなたがたを愛すれば愛するほど、あなたがたからますます愛されなくなるのであろうか。		12:15 I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less?
12:16わたしは、あなたがたに重荷を負わせなかったとしても、悪がしこくて、あなたがたからだまし取ったのだと、人は言う。		12:16 But be it so, I did not myself burden you. But, being crafty, I caught you with deception.
12:17わたしは、あなたがたにつかわした人たちのうちのだれかをとおして、あなたがたからむさぼり取っただろうか。		12:17 Did I take advantage of you by anyone of them whom I have sent to you?
12:18わたしは、テトスに勧めてそちらに行かせ、また、かの兄弟を同行させた。テトスは、あなたがたからむさぼり取ったことがあろうか。わたしたちは、みな同じ心で歩いたではないか。同じ足並みで歩いたではないか。		12:18 I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? Didn't we walk in the same spirit? Didn't we walk in the same steps?
12:19あなたがたは、わたしたちがあなたがたに対して弁明をしているのだと、今までずっと思ってきたであろう。しかし、わたしたちは、神のみまえでキリストにあって語っているのである。愛する者たちよ。これらすべてのことは、あなたがたの徳を高めるためなのである。		12:19 Again, do you think that we are excusing ourselves to you? In the sight of God we speak in Christ. But all things, beloved, are for your edifying.
12:20わたしは、こんな心配をしている。わたしが行ってみると、もしかしたら、あなたがたがわたしの願っているような者ではなく、わたしも、あなたがたの願っているような者でないことになりはすまいか。もしかしたら、争い、ねたみ、怒り、党派心、そしり、ざんげん、高慢、騒乱などがありはすまいか。		12:20 For I am afraid that by any means, when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you don't desire; that by any means there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, riots;
12:21わたしが再びそちらに行った場合、わたしの神が、あなたがたの前でわたしに恥をかかせ、その上、多くの人が前に罪を犯していながら、その汚れと不品行と好色とを悔い改めていないので、わたしを悲しませることになりはすまいか。		12:21 that again when I come my God would humble me before you, and I would mourn for many of those who have sinned before now, and not repented of the uncleanness and sexual immorality and lustfulness which they committed.
13:1わたしは今、三度目にあなたがたの所に行こうとしている。すべての事がらは、ふたりか三人の証人の証言によって確定する。		13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. "At the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." {Deuteronomy 19:15}
13:2わたしは、前に罪を犯した者たちやその他のすべての人々に、二度目に滞在していたとき警告しておいたが、離れている今またあらかじめ言っておく。今度行った時には、決して容赦はしない。		13:2 I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, so now, being absent, I write to those who have sinned before now, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare;
13:3なぜなら、あなたがたが、キリストのわたしにあって語っておられるという証拠を求めているからである。キリストは、あなたがたに対して弱くはなく、あなたがたのうちにあって強い。		13:3 seeing that you seek a proof of Christ who speaks in me; who toward you is not weak, but is powerful in you.
13:4すなわち、キリストは弱さのゆえに十字架につけられたが、神の力によって生きておられるのである。このように、わたしたちもキリストにあって弱い者であるが、あなたがたに対しては、神の力によって、キリストと共に生きるのである。		13:4 For he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we will live with him through the power of God toward you.
13:5あなたがたは、はたして信仰があるかどうか、自分を反省し、自分を吟味するがよい。それとも、イエス・キリストがあなたがたのうちにおられることを、悟らないのか。もし悟らなければ、あなたがたは、にせものとして見捨てられる。		13:5 Test your own selves, whether you are in the faith. Test your own selves. Or don't you know as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.
13:6しかしわたしは、自分たちが見捨てられた者ではないことを、知っていてもらいたい。		13:6 But I hope that you will know that we aren't disqualified.
13:7わたしたちは、あなたがたがどんな悪をも行わないようにと、神に祈る。それは、自分たちがほんとうの者であることを見せるためではなく、たといわたしたちが見捨てられた者のようになっても、あなたがたに良い行いをしてもらいたいためである。		13:7 Now I pray to God that you do no evil; not that we may appear approved, but that you may do that which is honorable, though we are as reprobate.
13:8わたしたちは、真理に逆らっては何をする力もなく、真理にしたがえば力がある。		13:8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
13:9わたしたちは、自分は弱くても、あなたがたが強ければ、それを喜ぶ。わたしたちが特に祈るのは、あなたがたが完全に良くなってくれることである。		13:9 For we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong. And this we also pray for, even your perfecting.
13:10こういうわけで、離れていて以上のようなことを書いたのは、わたしがあなたがたの所に行ったとき、倒すためではなく高めるために主が授けて下さった権威を用いて、きびしい処置をする必要がないようにしたいためである。		13:10 For this cause I write these things while absent, that I may not deal sharply when present, according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not for tearing down.
13:11最後に、兄弟たちよ。いつも喜びなさい。全き者となりなさい。互に励まし合いなさい。思いを一つにしなさい。平和に過ごしなさい。そうすれば、愛と平和の神があなたがたと共にいて下さるであろう。		13:11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Be perfected, be comforted, be of the same mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.
13:12きよい接吻をもって互にあいさつをかわしなさい。聖徒たち一同が、あなたがたによろしく。		13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.
13:13主イエス・キリストの恵みと、神の愛と、聖霊の交わりとが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。		13:13 All the saints greet you.
		13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
