1:1預言者ハバククが見た神の託宣。		1:1 The oracle which Habakkuk the prophet saw.
1:2主よ、わたしが呼んでいるのに、いつまであなたは聞きいれて下さらないのか。わたしはあなたに「暴虐がある」と訴えたが、あなたは助けて下さらないのか。		1:2 Yahweh, {"Yahweh" is God's proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations.} how long will I cry, and you will not hear? I cry out to you "Violence!" and will you not save?
1:3あなたは何ゆえ、わたしによこしまを見せ、何ゆえ、わたしに災を見せられるのか。略奪と暴虐がわたしの前にあり、また論争があり、闘争も起っている。		1:3 Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up.
1:4それゆえ、律法はゆるみ、公義は行われず、悪人は義人を囲み、公義は曲げて行われている。		1:4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth; for the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice goes forth perverted.
1:5諸国民のうちを望み見て、驚け、そして怪しめ。わたしはあなたがたの日に一つの事をする。人がこの事を知らせても、あなたがたはとうてい信じまい。		1:5 "Look among the nations, watch, and wonder marvelously; for I am working a work in your days, which you will not believe though it is told you.
1:6見よ、わたしはカルデヤびとを興す。これはたけく、激しい国民であって、地を縦横に行きめぐり、自分たちのものでないすみかを奪う。		1:6 For, behold, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.
1:7これはきびしく、恐ろしく、そのさばきと威厳とは彼ら自身から出る。		1:7 They are feared and dreaded. Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.
1:8その馬はひょうよりも速く、夜のおおかみよりも荒い。その騎兵は威勢よく進む。すなわち、その騎兵は遠い所から来る。彼らは物を食おうと急ぐわしのように飛ぶ。		1:8 Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves. Their horsemen press proudly on. Yes, their horsemen come from afar. They fly as an eagle that hurries to devour.
1:9彼らはみな暴虐のために来る。彼らを恐れる恐れが彼らの前を行く。彼らはとりこを砂のように集める。		1:9 All of them come for violence. Their hordes face the desert. He gathers prisoners like sand.

We will not die. Yahweh, you have appointed him for judgment. You, Rock, have established him to punish.
1:13あなたは目が清く、悪を見られない者、また不義を見られない者であるのに、何ゆえ不真実な者に目をとめていられるのですか。悪しき者が自分よりも正しい者を、のみ食らうのに、何ゆえ黙っていられるのですか。		1:13 You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,
1:14あなたは人を海の魚のようにし、治める者のない這う虫のようにされる。		1:14 and make men like the fish of the sea, like the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
1:15彼はつり針でこれをことごとくつり上げ、網でこれを捕え、引き網でこれを集め、こうして彼は喜び楽しむ。		1:15 He takes up all of them with the hook. He catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad.
1:16それゆえ、彼はその網に犠牲をささげ、その引き網に香をたく。これによって彼はぜいたくに暮し、その食物も豊かになるからである。		1:16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious, and his food is good.

2:1わたしはわたしの見張所に立ち、物見やぐらに身を置き、望み見て、彼がわたしになんと語られるかを見、またわたしの訴えについてわたし自らなんと答えたらよかろうかを見よう。		2:1 I will stand at my watch, and set myself on the ramparts, and will look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.
2:2主はわたしに答えて言われた、「この幻を書き、これを板の上に明らかにしるし、走りながらも、これを読みうるようにせよ。		2:2 Yahweh answered me, "Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it.
2:3この幻はなお定められたときを待ち、終りをさして急いでいる。それは偽りではない。もしおそければ待っておれ。それは必ず臨む。滞りはしない。		2:3 For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won't prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won't delay.
2:4見よ、その魂の正しくない者は衰える。しかし義人はその信仰によって生きる。		2:4 Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith.
2:5また、酒は欺くものだ。高ぶる者は定まりがない。彼の欲は陰府のように広い。彼は死のようであって、飽くことなく、万国をおのれに集め、万民をおのれのものとしてつどわせる」。		2:5 Yes, moreover, wine is treacherous. A haughty man who doesn't stay at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol {Sheol is the place of the dead.}, and he is like death, and can't be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations, and heaps to himself all peoples.
2:6これらは皆ことわざをもって彼をあざけり、あざけりのなぞをもって彼をあざ笑わないだろうか。すなわち言う、「わざわいなるかな、おのれに属さないものを増し加える者よ。いつまでこのようであろうか。質物でおのれを重くする者よ」。		2:6 Won't all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?'
2:7あなたの負債者は、にわかに興らないであろうか。あなたを激しくゆすぶる者は目ざめないであろうか。その時あなたは彼らにかすめられる。		2:7 Won't your debtors rise up suddenly, and wake up those who make you tremble, and you will be their victim?
2:8あなたは多くの国民をかすめたゆえ、そのもろもろの民の残れる者は皆あなたをかすめる。これは人の血を流し、国と町と、その中に住むすべての者に暴虐を行ったからである。		2:8 Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples will plunder you, because of men's blood, and for the violence done to the land, to the city and to all who dwell in it.
2:9わざわいなるかな、災の手を免れるために高い所に巣を構えようと、おのが家のために不義の利を取る者よ。		2:9 Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!
2:10あなたは事をはかって自分の家に恥を招き、多くの民を滅ぼして、自分の生命を失った。		2:10 You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.
2:11石は石がきから叫び、梁は建物からこれに答えるからである。		2:11 For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it.
2:12わざわいなるかな、血をもって町を建て、悪をもって町を築く者よ。		2:12 Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity!
2:13見よ、もろもろの民は火のために労し、もろもろの国びとはむなしい事のために疲れる。これは万軍の主から出る言葉ではないか。		2:13 Behold, isn't it of Yahweh of Armies that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?
2:14海が水でおおわれているように、地は主の栄光の知識で満たされるからである。		2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea.
2:15わざわいなるかな、その隣り人に怒りの杯を飲ませて、これを酔わせ、彼らの隠し所を見ようとする者よ。		2:15 "Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink, pouring your inflaming wine until they are drunk, so that you may gaze at their naked bodies!
2:16あなたは誉の代りに恥に飽き、あなたもまた飲んでよろめけ。主の右の手の杯は、あなたに巡り来る。恥はあなたの誉に代る。		2:16 You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink, and be exposed! The cup of Yahweh's right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.
2:17あなたがレバノンになした暴虐は、あなたを倒し、獣のような滅亡は、あなたを恐れさせる。これは人の血を流し、国と町と、町の中に住むすべての者に、暴虐を行ったからである。		2:17 For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and the destruction of the animals, which made them afraid; because of men's blood, and for the violence done to the land, to every city and to those who dwell in them.
2:18刻める像、鋳像および偽りを教える者は、その作者がこれを刻んだとてなんの益があろうか。その作者が物言わぬ偶像を造って、その造ったものに頼んでみても、なんの益があろうか。		2:18 "What value does the engraved image have, that its maker has engraved it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make mute idols?
2:19わざわいなるかな、木に向かって、さめよと言い、物言わぬ石に向かって、起きよと言う者よ。これは黙示を与え得ようか。見よ、これは金銀をきせたもので、その中には命の息は少しもない。		2:19 Woe to him who says to the wood, 'Awake!' or to the mute stone, 'Arise!' Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in its midst.
2:20しかし、主はその聖なる宮にいます、全地はそのみ前に沈黙せよ。		2:20 But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!"
3:1シギヨノテの調べによる、預言者ハバククの祈。		3:1 A prayer of Habakkuk, the prophet, set to victorious music.
3:2主よ、わたしはあなたのことを聞きました。主よ、わたしはあなたのみわざを見て恐れます。この年のうちにこれを新たにし、この年のうちにこれを知らせてください。怒る時にもあわれみを思いおこしてください。		3:2 Yahweh, I have heard of your fame. I stand in awe of your deeds, Yahweh. Renew your work in the midst of the years. In the midst of the years make it known. In wrath, you remember mercy.
3:3神はテマンからこられ、聖者はパランの山からこられた。その栄光は天をおおい、そのさんびは地に満ちた。〔セラ		3:3 God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and his praise filled the earth.

3:12あなたは憤って地を行きめぐり、怒って諸国民を踏みつけられた。		3:12 You marched through the land in wrath. You threshed the nations in anger.
3:13あなたはあなたの民を救うため、あなたの油そそいだ者を救うために出て行かれた。あなたは悪しき者の頭を砕き、彼を腰から首まで裸にされた。〔セラ		3:13 You went forth for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the land of wickedness. You stripped them head to foot. Selah.

Rottenness enters into my bones, and I tremble in my place, because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the coming up of the people who invade us.
3:17いちじくの木は花咲かず、ぶどうの木は実らず、オリブの木の産はむなしくなり、田畑は食物を生ぜず、おりには羊が絶え、牛舎には牛がいなくなる。		3:17 For though the fig tree doesn't flourish, nor fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive fails, the fields yield no food; the flocks are cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls:
3:18しかし、わたしは主によって楽しみ、わが救の神によって喜ぶ。		3:18 yet I will rejoice in Yahweh. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
3:19主なる神はわたしの力であって、わたしの足を雌じかの足のようにし、わたしに高い所を歩ませられる。これを琴に合わせ、聖歌隊の指揮者によって歌わせる。		3:19 Yahweh, the Lord {The word translated "Lord" is "Adonai."}, is my strength. He makes my feet like deer's feet, and enables me to go in high places. For the music director, on my stringed instruments.
