1:1ユダヤの王ウジヤ、ヨタム、アハズ、ヒゼキヤの世、イスラエルの王ヨアシの子ヤラベアムの世に、ベエリの子ホセアに臨んだ主の言葉。		1:1 The word of Yahweh {"Yahweh" is God's proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations.} that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
1:2主が最初ホセアによって語られた時、主はホセアに言われた、「行って、淫行の妻と、淫行によって生れた子らを受けいれよ。この国は主にそむいて、はなはだしい淫行をなしているからである」。		1:2 When Yahweh spoke at first by Hosea, Yahweh said to Hosea, "Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking Yahweh."

1:5その日、わたしはエズレルの谷でイスラエルの弓を折る」と。		1:5 It will happen in that day that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel."
1:6ゴメルはまたみごもって女の子を産んだ。主はホセアに言われた、「あなたはその名をロルハマと名づけよ。わたしはもはやイスラエルの家をあわれまず、決してこれをゆるさないからである。		1:6 She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, "Call her name Lo-Ruhamah {Lo-Ruhamah means "not loved."}; for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them.
1:7しかし、わたしはユダの家をあわれみ、その神、主によってこれを救う。わたしは弓、つるぎ、戦争、馬および騎兵によって救うのではない」と。		1:7 But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by Yahweh their God {The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "Elohim."}, and will not save them by bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen."
1:8ゴメルはロルハマを乳離れさせたとき、またみごもって男の子を産んだ。		1:8 Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived, and bore a son.
1:9主は言われた、「その子の名をロアンミと名づけよ。あなたがたは、わたしの民ではなく、わたしは、あなたがたの神ではないからである」。		1:9 He said, "Call his name Lo-Ammi {Lo-Ammi means "not my people"}; for you are not my people, and I will not be yours.
1:10しかしイスラエルの人々の数は海の砂のように量ることも、数えることもできないほどになって、さきに彼らが「あなたがたは、わたしの民ではない」と言われたその所で、「あなたがたは生ける神の子である」と言われるようになる。		1:10 Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can't be measured nor numbered; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'sons of the living God.'
1:11そしてユダの人々とイスラエルの人々は共に集まり、ひとりの長を立てて、その地からのぼって来る。エズレルの日は大いなるものとなる。		1:11 The children of Judah and the children of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Jezreel.
2:1あなたがたの兄弟に向かっては「アンミ（わが民）」と言い、あなたがたの姉妹に向かっては「ルハマ（あわれまれる者）」と言え。		2:1 "Say to your brothers, 'My people!' {'Ammi' in Hebrew} and to your sisters, 'My loved one!' {'Ruhamah' in Hebrew}
2:2「あなたがたの母とあげつらえ、あげつらえ彼女はわたしの妻ではない、わたしは彼女の夫ではないそして彼女にその顔から淫行を除かせ、その乳ぶさの間から姦淫を除かせよ。		2:2 Contend with your mother! Contend, for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband; and let her put away her prostitution from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
2:3そうでなければ、わたしは彼女の着物をはいで裸にし、その生れ出た日のようにし、また荒野のようにし、かわききった地のようにし、かわきによって彼女を殺す。		2:3 Lest I strip her naked, and make her bare as in the day that she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and kill her with thirst.
2:4わたしはその子らをあわれまない、彼らは淫行の子らだからである。		2:4 Indeed, on her children I will have no mercy; for they are children of unfaithfulness;
2:5彼らの母は淫行をなし、彼らをはらんだ彼女は恥ずべきことを行った。彼女は言った、『わたしはわが恋人たちについて行こう。彼らはパンと水と羊の毛と麻と油と飲み物とを、わたしに与える者である』と。		2:5 For their mother has played the prostitute. She who conceived them has done shamefully; for she said, 'I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.'
2:6それゆえ、わたしはいばらで彼女の道をふさぎ、かきをたてて、彼女にはその道がわからないようにする。		2:6 Therefore behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she can't find her way.
2:7彼女はその恋人たちのあとを慕って行く、しかし彼らに追いつくことはない。彼らを尋ねる、しかし見いだすことはない。そこで彼女は言う、『わたしは行って、さきの夫に帰ろう。あの時は今よりもわたしによかったから』と。		2:7 She will follow after her lovers, but she won't overtake them; and she will seek them, but won't find them. Then she will say, 'I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.'
2:8彼女に穀物と酒と油とを与えた者、またバアルのために用いた銀と金とを多く彼女に与えた者は、わたしであったことを彼女は知らなかった。		2:8 For she did not know that I gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and multiplied to her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.
2:9それゆえ、わたしは穀物をその時になって奪い、ぶどう酒をその季節になって奪い、また彼女の裸をおおうために用いる羊の毛と麻とを奪い取る。		2:9 Therefore I will take back my grain in its time, and my new wine in its season, and will pluck away my wool and my flax which should have covered her nakedness.
2:10わたしは今、彼女のみだらなことをその恋人たちの目の前にあらわす。だれも彼女をわたしの手から救う者はない。		2:10 Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and no one will deliver her out of my hand.
2:11わたしは彼女のすべての楽しみ、すなわち祝、新月、安息日、すべての祭をやめさせる。		2:11 I will also cause all her celebrations to cease: her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies.
2:12わたしはまた彼女が先に『これはわたしの恋人らが、わたしに与えた報酬だ』と言った彼女のぶどうの木と、いちじくの木とを荒し、これを林とし、野の獣にこれを食わせる。		2:12 I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees, about which she has said, 'These are my wages that my lovers have given me; and I will make them a forest,' and the animals of the field shall eat them.
2:13また彼女が耳輪と宝石で身を飾り、その恋人たちを慕って行って、わたしを忘れ、香をたいて仕えたバアルの祭の日のために、わたしは彼女を罰すると主は言われる。		2:13 I will visit on her the days of the Baals, to which she burned incense, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgot me," says Yahweh.
2:14それゆえ、見よ、わたしは彼女をいざなって、荒野に導いて行き、ねんごろに彼女に語ろう。		2:14 "Therefore behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.
2:15その所でわたしは彼女にそのぶどう畑を与え、アコルの谷を望みの門として与える。その所で彼女は若かった日のように、エジプトの国からのぼって来た時のように、答えるであろう。		2:15 I will give her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she will respond there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
2:16主は言われる、その日には、あなたはわたしを『わが夫』と呼び、もはや『わがバアル』とは呼ばない。		2:16 It will be in that day," says Yahweh, "that you will call me 'my husband,' and no longer call me 'my master.'
2:17わたしはもろもろのバアルの名を彼女の口から取り除き、重ねてその名をとなえることのないようにする。		2:17 For I will take away the names of the Baals out of her mouth, and they will no longer be mentioned by name.
2:18その日には、わたしはまたあなたのために野の獣、空の鳥および地の這うものと契約を結び、また弓と、つるぎと、戦争とを地から断って、あなたを安らかに伏させる。		2:18 In that day I will make a covenant for them with the animals of the field, and with the birds of the sky, and with the creeping things of the ground. I will break the bow, the sword, and the battle out of the land, and will make them lie down safely.
2:19またわたしは永遠にあなたとちぎりを結ぶ。すなわち正義と、公平と、いつくしみと、あわれみとをもってちぎりを結ぶ。		2:19 I will betroth you to me forever. Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion.
2:20わたしは真実をもって、あなたとちぎりを結ぶ。そしてあなたは主を知るであろう。		2:20 I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know Yahweh.
2:21主は言われる、その日わたしは天に答え、天は地に答える。		2:21 It will happen in that day, I will respond," says Yahweh, "I will respond to the heavens, and they will respond to the earth;
2:22地は穀物と酒と油とに答え、またこれらのものはエズレルに答える。		2:22 and the earth will respond to the grain, and the new wine, and the oil; and they will respond to Jezreel.

3:2そこでわたしは銀十五シケルと大麦一ホメル半とをもって彼女を買い取った。		3:2 So I bought her for myself for fifteen pieces of silver and a homer {1 homer is about 220 litres or 6 bushels} and a half of barley.
3:3わたしは彼女に言った、「あなたは長くわたしの所にとどまって、淫行をなさず、また他の人のものとなってはならない。わたしもまた、あなたにそうしよう」と。		3:3 I said to her, "You shall stay with me many days. You shall not play the prostitute, and you shall not be with any other man. I will also be so toward you."
3:4イスラエルの子らは多くの日の間、王なく、君なく、犠牲なく、柱なく、エポデおよびテラピムもなく過ごす。		3:4 For the children of Israel shall live many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without sacred stone, and without ephod or idols.
3:5そしてその後イスラエルの子らは帰って来て、その神、主と、その王ダビデとをたずね求め、終りの日におののいて、主とその恵みに向かって来る。		3:5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return, and seek Yahweh their God, and David their king, and shall come with trembling to Yahweh and to his blessings in the last days.
4:1イスラエルの人々よ、主の言葉を聞け。主はこの地に住む者と争われる。この地には真実がなく、愛情がなく、また神を知ることもないからである。		4:1 Hear the word of Yahweh, you children of Israel; for Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "Indeed there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
4:2ただのろいと、偽りと、人殺しと、盗みと、姦淫することのみで、人々は皆荒れ狂い、殺害に殺害が続いている。		4:2 There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.

4:4しかし、だれも争ってはならない、責めてはならない。祭司よ。わたしの争うのは、あなたと争うのだ。		4:4 "Yet let no man bring a charge, neither let any man accuse; For your people are like those who bring charges against a priest.
4:5あなたは昼つまずき、預言者もまたあなたと共に夜つまずく。わたしはあなたの母を滅ぼす。		4:5 You will stumble in the day, and the prophet will also stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother.
4:6わたしの民は知識がないために滅ぼされる。あなたは知識を捨てたゆえに、わたしもあなたを捨てて、わたしの祭司としない。あなたはあなたの神の律法を忘れたゆえに、わたしもまたあなたの子らを忘れる。		4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God's law, I will also forget your children.
4:7彼らは大きくなるにしたがって、ますますわたしに罪を犯したゆえ、わたしは彼らの栄えを恥に変える。		4:7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me. I will change their glory into shame.
4:8彼らはわが民の罪を食いものにし、その罪を犯すことをせつに願っている。		4:8 They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.
4:9それゆえ祭司も民と同じようになる。わたしはそのわざのために彼らを罰し、そのおこないのために彼らに報いる。		4:9 It will be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will repay them for their deeds.
4:10彼らは食べても飽くことなく、淫行をなしてもその数を増すことがない。彼らは主を捨てて、淫行を愛したからである。		4:10 They will eat, and not have enough. They will play the prostitute, and will not increase; because they have abandoned giving to Yahweh.
4:11酒と新しい酒とは思慮を奪う。		4:11 Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.
4:12わが民は木に向かって事を尋ねる。またそのつえは彼らに事を示す。これは淫行の霊が彼らを迷わしたからである。彼らはその神を捨てて淫行をなした。		4:12 My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.
4:13彼らは山々の頂で犠牲をささげ、丘の上、かしの木、柳の木、テレビンの木の下で供え物をささげる。これはその木陰がここちよいためである。それゆえ、あなたがたの娘は淫行をなし、あなたがたの嫁は姦淫を行う。		4:13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery.
4:14わたしはあなたがたの娘が淫行をしても罰しない。またあなたがたの嫁が姦淫を行っても罰しない。男たちみずから遊女と共に離れ去り、宮の遊女と共に犠牲をささげているからである。悟りのない民は滅びる。		4:14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.
4:15イスラエルよ、あなたは淫行をなしても、ユダに罪を犯させてはならない。ギルガルへ行ってはならない。ベテアベンにのぼってはならない。また「主は生きておられる」と言って誓ってはならない。		4:15 "Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don't let Judah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear, 'As Yahweh lives.'
4:16イスラエルは強情な雌牛のように強情である。今、主は小羊を広い野に放つようにして、彼らを養うことができようか。		4:16 For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Then how will Yahweh feed them like a lamb in a meadow.
4:17エフライムは偶像に結びつらなった。そのなすにまかせよ。		4:17 Ephraim is joined to idols. Leave him alone!
4:18彼らは酒宴のとりことなり、淫行にふけっている。彼らはその光栄よりも恥を愛する。		4:18 Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.
4:19風はその翼に彼らを包んだ。彼らはその祭壇のゆえに恥を受ける。		4:19 The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.
5:1祭司たちよ、これを聞け、イスラエルの家よ、心をとめよ、王の家よ、耳を傾けよ、さばきはあなたがたに臨む。あなたがたはミヅパにわなを設け、タボルの上に網を張ったからだ。		5:1 "Listen to this, you priests! Listen, house of Israel, and give ear, house of the king! For the judgment is against you; for you have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread on Tabor.
5:2彼らはシッテムの穴を深くしたが、わたしは彼らをことごとく懲らしめる。		5:2 The rebels are deep in slaughter; but I discipline all of them.
5:3わたしはエフライムを知っている。イスラエルはわたしに隠れることがない。エフライムよ、あなたは今淫行をなし、イスラエルは汚された。		5:3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me; for now, Ephraim, you have played the prostitute. Israel is defiled.
5:4彼らのおこないは彼らを神に帰らせない。それは淫行の霊が彼らのうちにあって、主を知ることができないからだ。		5:4 Their deeds won't allow them to turn to their God; for the spirit of prostitution is within them, and they don't know Yahweh.
5:5イスラエルの誇はその顔に向かって証言している。エフライムはその不義によってつまずき、ユダもまた彼らと共につまずく。		5:5 The pride of Israel testifies to his face. Therefore Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their iniquity. Judah also will stumble with them.
5:6彼らは羊の群れ、牛の群れを携えて行って、主を求めても、主に会うことはない。主は彼らから離れ去られた。		5:6 They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Yahweh; but they won't find him. He has withdrawn himself from them.
5:7彼らは主にむかって貞操を守らず、ほかの者の子を産んだ。新月は彼らをその田畑と共に滅ぼす。		5:7 They are unfaithful to Yahweh; for they have borne illegitimate children. Now the new moon will devour them with their fields.
5:8ギベアで角笛を吹き、ラマでラッパを鳴らし、ベテアベンで呼ばわり叫べ。ベニヤミンよ、おののけ。		5:8 "Blow the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah! Sound a battle cry at Beth Aven, behind you, Benjamin!
5:9エフライムは刑罰の日に荒れすたれる。わたしはイスラエルの部族のうちに、必ず起るべき事を知らせる。		5:9 Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke. Among the tribes of Israel, I have made known that which will surely be.
5:10ユダの君たちは境を移す者のようになった。わたしはわが怒りを水のように彼らの上に注ぐ。		5:10 The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark. I will pour out my wrath on them like water.
5:11エフライムは甘んじて、むなしいものに従って歩んだゆえ、さばきを受けて、しえたげられ、打ちひしがれる。		5:11 Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; Because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.
5:12それゆえ、わたしはエフライムには、しみのように、ユダの家には腐れのようになる。		5:12 Therefore I am to Ephraim like a moth, and to the house of Judah like rottenness.

5:14わたしはエフライムに対しては、ししのようになり、ユダの家に対しては若きししのようになる。わたしは、わたしこそ、かき裂いて去り、かすめて行くが、だれも救う者はない。		5:14 For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I myself will tear in pieces and go away. I will carry off, and there will be no one to deliver.
5:15わたしは彼らがその罪を認めて、わが顔をたずね求めるまで、わたしの所に帰っていよう。彼らは悩みによって、わたしを尋ね求めて言う、		5:15 I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly."
6:1「さあ、わたしたちは主に帰ろう。主はわたしたちをかき裂かれたが、またいやし、わたしたちを打たれたが、また包んでくださるからだ。		6:1 "Come, and let us return to Yahweh; for he has torn us to pieces, and he will heal us; he has injured us, and he will bind up our wounds.
6:2主は、ふつかの後、わたしたちを生かし、三日目にわたしたちを立たせられる。わたしたちはみ前で生きる。		6:2 After two days he will revive us. On the third day he will raise us up, and we will live before him.
6:3わたしたちは主を知ろう、せつに主を知ることを求めよう。主はあしたの光のように必ず現れいで、冬の雨のように、わたしたちに臨み、春の雨のように地を潤される」。		6:3 Let us acknowledge Yahweh. Let us press on to know Yahweh. As surely as the sun rises, Yahweh will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth."
6:4エフライムよ、わたしはあなたに何をしようか。ユダよ、わたしはあなたに何をしようか。あなたがたの愛はあしたの雲のごとく、また、たちまち消える露のようなものである。		6:4 "Ephraim, what shall I do to you? Judah, what shall I do to you? For your love is like a morning cloud, and like the dew that disappears early.
6:5それゆえ、わたしは預言者たちによって彼らを切り倒し、わが口の言葉をもって彼らを殺した。わがさばきは現れ出る光のようだ。		6:5 Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets; I killed them with the words of my mouth. Your judgments are like a flash of lightning.
6:6わたしはいつくしみを喜び、犠牲を喜ばない。燔祭よりもむしろ神を知ることを喜ぶ。		6:6 For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
6:7ところが彼らはアダムで契約を破り、かしこでわたしにそむいた。		6:7 But they, like Adam, have broken the covenant. They were unfaithful to me, there.
6:8ギレアデは悪を行う者の町で、血の足跡で満たされている。		6:8 Gilead is a city of those who work iniquity; it is stained with blood.
6:9盗賊が人を待ち伏せするように、祭司たちは党を組み、シケムへ行く道で人を殺す。このように彼らは悪しき事を行う。		6:9 As gangs of robbers wait to ambush a man, so the company of priests murder in the way toward Shechem, committing shameful crimes.
6:10わたしはイスラエルの家に恐るべき事を見た。かしこでエフライムは淫行をなし、イスラエルは汚された。		6:10 In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing. There is prostitution in Ephraim. Israel is defiled.
6:11ユダよ、あなたのためにも刈入れが定められている。わたしがわが民の繁栄を回復するとき、		6:11 "Also, Judah, there is a harvest appointed for you, when I restore the fortunes of my people.
7:1わたしがイスラエルをいやすとき、エフライムの不義と、サマリヤの悪しきわざとは現れる。彼らは偽りをおこない、内では盗びとが押し入り、外では山賊の群れが襲いきたる。		7:1 When I would heal Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim is uncovered, also the wickedness of Samaria; for they commit falsehood, and the thief enters in, and the gang of robbers ravages outside.
7:2しかし、彼らはわたしが彼らのすべての悪を覚えていることを悟らない。今、そのわざは彼らを囲んで、わたしの顔の前にある。		7:2 They don't consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own deeds have engulfed them. They are before my face.

7:4彼らはみな姦淫を行う者で、パンを焼く者が熱くする炉のようだ。パンを焼く者は、ねり粉をこねてから、それがふくれるまで、しばらく、火をおこす事をしないだけだ。		7:4 They are all adulterers. They are burning like an oven that the baker stops stirring, from the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened.
7:5われわれの王の日に、つかさたちは酒の熱によって病みわずらい、王はあざける者と共に手を伸べた。		7:5 On the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine. He joined his hand with mockers.
7:6彼らは陰謀をもってその心を炉のように燃やす。その怒りは夜通しくすぶり、朝になると炎のように燃える。		7:6 For they have prepared their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait. Their baker sleeps all the night. In the morning it burns as a flaming fire.
7:7彼らは皆、炉のように熱くなって、そのさばきびとを焼き滅ぼす。そのもろもろの王は皆たおれる。彼らの中にはわたしを呼ぶ者がひとりもない。		7:7 They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges. All their kings have fallen. There is no one among them who calls to me.
7:8エフライムはもろもろの民の中に入り混じる。エフライムは火にかけて、かえさない菓子である。		7:8 Ephraim, he mixes himself among the nations. Ephraim is a pancake not turned over.
7:9他国人らは彼の力を食い尽すが、彼はそれを知らない。しらがが混じってはえても、それを悟らない。		7:9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he doesn't realize it. Indeed, gray hairs are here and there on him, and he doesn't realize it.
7:10イスラエルの誇は自らに向かって証言している、彼らはこのもろもろの事があっても、なおその神、主に帰らず、また主を求めない。		7:10 The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they haven't returned to Yahweh their God, nor sought him, for all this.

7:14彼らは真心をもってわたしを呼ばず、ただ床の上で悲しみ叫ぶ。彼らは穀物と酒のためには集まるが、わたしに逆らう。		7:14 They haven't cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.
7:15わたしは彼らを教え、その腕を強くしたが、彼らはわたしに逆らって、悪しき事をはかる。		7:15 Though I have taught and strengthened their arms, yet they plot evil against me.
7:16彼らはバアルに帰る。彼らはあざむく弓のようだ。彼らの君たちはその舌の高ぶりのために、つるぎに倒れる。これはエジプトの国で人々のあざけりとなる。		7:16 They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a faulty bow. Their princes will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their derision in the land of Egypt.
8:1ラッパをあなたの口にあてよ、はげたかは主の家に臨む。彼らがわたしの契約を破り、わたしの律法を犯したからだ。		8:1 "Put the trumpet to your lips! Something like an eagle is over Yahweh's house, because they have broken my covenant, and rebelled against my law.
8:2彼らはわたしに向かって叫ぶ、「わが神よ、われわれイスラエルはあなたを知る」と。		8:2 They cry to me, 'My God, we Israel acknowledge you!'
8:3イスラエルは善はしりぞけた。敵はこれを追うであろう。		8:3 Israel has cast off that which is good. The enemy will pursue him.

8:7彼らは風をまいて、つむじ風を刈り取る。立っている穀物は穂を持たず、また実らない。たとい実っても、他国人がこれを食い尽す。		8:7 For they sow the wind, and they will reap the whirlwind. He has no standing grain. The stalk will yield no head. If it does yield, strangers will swallow it up.
8:8イスラエルはのまれた。彼らは諸国民の間にあって、すでに無用な器のようになった。		8:8 Israel is swallowed up. Now they are among the nations like a worthless thing.
8:9彼らはひとりさまよう野のろばのように、アッスリヤにのぼって行った。エフライムは物を贈って恋人を得た。		8:9 For they have gone up to Assyria, like a wild donkey wandering alone. Ephraim has hired lovers for himself.
8:10たとい彼らが国々に物を贈って同盟者を得ても、わたしはまもなく彼らを集める。彼らはしばらくにして、王や君たちに油をそそぐことをやめる。		8:10 But although they sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them; and they begin to waste away because of the oppression of the king of mighty ones.

8:14イスラエルは自分の造り主を忘れて、もろもろの宮殿を建てた。ユダは堅固な町々を多く増し加えた。しかしわたしは火をその町々に送って、もろもろの城を焼き滅ぼす。		8:14 For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; and Judah has multiplied fortified cities; but I will send a fire on his cities, and it will devour its fortresses."
9:1イスラエルよ、もろもろの民のように喜びおどるな。あなたは淫行をなして、あなたの神を離れ、すべての穀物の打ち場で受ける淫行の価を愛した。		9:1 Don't rejoice, Israel, to jubilation like the nations; for you were unfaithful to your God. You love the wages of a prostitute at every grain threshing floor.
9:2打ち場と酒ぶねとは彼らを養わない。また新しい酒もむなしくなる。		9:2 The threshing floor and the winepress won't feed them, and the new wine will fail her.
9:3彼らは主の地に住むことなく、エフライムはエジプトに帰り、アッスリヤで汚れた物を食べる。		9:3 They won't dwell in Yahweh's land; but Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.

Their sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat of it will be polluted; for their bread will be for their appetite. It will not come into the house of Yahweh.
9:5あなたがたは祝の日と、主の祭の日に、何をしようとするのか。		9:5 What will you do in the day of solemn assembly, and in the day of the feast of Yahweh?
9:6見よ、彼らはアッスリヤへ行く。エジプトは彼らを集め、メンピスは彼らを葬る。あざみは彼らの銀の宝物を所有し、いばらは彼らの天幕にはびこる。		9:6 For, behold, they have gone away from destruction. Egypt will gather them up. Memphis will bury them. Nettles will possess their pleasant things of silver. Thorns will be in their tents.

Israel will consider the prophet to be a fool, and the man who is inspired to be insane, because of the abundance of your sins, and because your hostility is great.
9:8預言者はわが神の民エフライムの見張人である。しかし預言者のすべての道には鳥をとる者のわながあり、恨みはその神の家にある。		9:8 A prophet watches over Ephraim with my God. A fowler's snare is on all of his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.
9:9彼らはギベアの日のように、深くおのれを腐らせた。主はその不義を覚え、その罪を罰せられる。		9:9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish them for their sins.

I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree at its first season; but they came to Baal Peor, and consecrated themselves to the shameful thing, and became abominable like that which they loved.
9:11エフライムの栄光は、鳥のようにとび去る。すなわち産むことも、はらむことも、みごもることもなくなる。		9:11 As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird. There will be no birth, none with child, and no conception.
9:12たとい彼らが子を育てても、わたしはその子を奪って、残る者のないようにする。わたしが彼らを離れるとき、彼らはわざわいだ。		9:12 Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them, so that not a man shall be left. Indeed, woe also to them when I depart from them!
9:13わたしが見たように、エフライムの子らはえじきに定められた。エフライムはその子らを、人を殺す者に渡さなければならない。		9:13 I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place; but Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer.
9:14主よ、彼らに与えてください。あなたは何を与えられますか。流産の胎と、かわいた乳ぶさを彼らに与えてください。		9:14 Give them--Yahweh what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
9:15彼らのすべての悪はギルガルにある。わたしはかしこで彼らを憎んだ。彼らのおこないの悪しきがゆえに、彼らをわが家から追いだし、重ねて愛することをしない。その君たちはみな、反逆者である。		9:15 "All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house! I will love them no more. All their princes are rebels.
9:16エフライムは撃たれ、その根は枯れて、実を結ばない。たとい彼らが子を産んでも、わたしはそのいつくしむ子らを殺す。		9:16 Ephraim is struck. Their root has dried up. They will bear no fruit. Even though they bring forth, yet I will kill the beloved ones of their womb."
9:17彼らは聞き従わないので、わが神はこれを捨てられる。彼らはもろもろの国民のうちに、さすらい人となる。		9:17 My God will cast them away, because they did not listen to him; and they will be wanderers among the nations.
10:1イスラエルは実を結ぶ茂ったぶどうの木である。その実を多く結ぶにしたがって、祭壇を増し、その地の豊かなるにしたがって、柱の像を麗しくした。		10:1 Israel is a luxuriant vine that puts forth his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
10:2彼らの心は偽りである。今、彼らはその罪を負わなければならない。主はその祭壇をこわし、その柱の像を砕かれる。		10:2 Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.
10:3今、彼らは言う、「われわれは主を恐れないので、われわれには王がない。王はわれわれのために何をなしえようか」と。		10:3 Surely now they will say, "We have no king; for we don't fear Yahweh; and the king, what can he do for us?"
10:4彼らはむなしき言葉をいだし、偽りの誓いをもって契約を結ぶ。それゆえ、さばきは畑のうねの毒草のように現れる。		10:4 They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants. Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
10:5サマリヤの住民は、ベテアベンの子牛のためにおののき、その民はこれがために嘆き、その偶像に仕える祭司たちは、その栄光のうせたるがために泣き悲しむ。		10:5 The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven; for its people will mourn over it, Along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
10:6その子牛はアッスリヤに携えられ、礼物として大王にささげられ、エフライムは恥をうけ、イスラエルはおのれの偶像を恥じる。		10:6 It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
10:7サマリヤの王は、水のおもての木切れのように滅ぼされる。		10:7 Samaria and her king float away, like a twig on the water.
10:8イスラエルの罪であるアベンの高き所も滅び、いばらとあざみがその祭壇の上にはえ茂る。その時彼らは山に向かって、「われわれをおおえ」と言い、丘に向かって「われわれの上に倒れよ」と言う。		10:8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, "Cover us!" and the hills, "Fall on us!"

10:12あなたがたは自分のために正義をまき、いつくしみの実を刈り取り、あなたがたの新田を耕せ。今は主を求むべき時である。主は来て救いを雨のように、あなたがたに降りそそがれる。		10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Yahweh, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
10:13あなたがたは悪を耕し、不義を刈りおさめ、偽りの実を食べた。これはあなたがたが自分の戦車を頼み、勇士の多いことを頼んだためである。		10:13 You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
10:14それゆえ、あなたがたの民の中にいくさの騒ぎが起り、シャルマンが戦いの日にベテ・アルベルを打ち破ったように、あなたがたの城はことごとく打ち破られる。母らはその子らと共に打ち砕かれた。		10:14 Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
10:15イスラエルの家よ、あなたがたの大いなる悪のゆえに、このように、あなたがたにも行われ、イスラエルの王は、あらしの中に全く滅ぼされる。		10:15 So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness. At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.
11:1わたしはイスラエルの幼い時、これを愛した。わたしはわが子をエジプトから呼び出した。		11:1 "When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
11:2わたしが呼ばわるにしたがって、彼らはいよいよわたしから遠ざかり、もろもろのバアルに犠牲をささげ、刻んだ像に香をたいた。		11:2 They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.

11:4わたしはあわれみの綱、すなわち愛のひもで彼らを導いた。わたしは彼らに対しては、あごから、くびきをはずす者のようになり、かがんで彼らに食物を与えた。		11:4 I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love; and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks; and I bent down to him and I fed him.
11:5彼らはエジプトの地に帰り、アッスリヤびとが彼らの王となる。彼らがわたしに帰ることを拒んだからである。		11:5 "They won't return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian will be their king, because they refused to repent.
11:6つるぎは、そのもろもろの町にあれ狂い、その門の貫の木を砕き、その城の中に彼らを滅ぼす。		11:6 The sword will fall on their cities, and will destroy the bars of their gates, and will put an end to their plans.
11:7わが民はわたしからそむき去ろうとしている。それゆえ、彼らはくびきをかけられ、これを除きうる者はひとりもいない。		11:7 My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won't exalt them.
11:8エフライムよ、どうして、あなたを捨てることができようか。イスラエルよ、どうしてあなたを渡すことができようか。どうしてあなたをアデマのようにすることができようか。どうしてあなたをゼボイムのように扱うことができようか。わたしの心は、わたしのうちに変り、わたしのあわれみは、ことごとくもえ起っている。		11:8 "How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me, my compassion is aroused.
11:9わたしはわたしの激しい怒りをあらわさない。わたしは再びエフライムを滅ぼさない。わたしは神であって、人ではなく、あなたのうちにいる聖なる者だからである。わたしは滅ぼすために臨むことをしない。		11:9 I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you; and I will not come in wrath.
11:10彼らは主に従って歩む。主はししのほえるように声を出される。主が声を出されると、子らはおののきつつ西から来る。		11:10 They will walk after Yahweh, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.
11:11彼らはエジプトから鳥のように、アッスリヤの地から、はとのように急いで来る。わたしは彼らをその家に帰らせると主は言われる。		11:11 They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will settle them in their houses," says Yahweh.
11:12エフライムは偽りをもって、わたしを囲み、イスラエルの家は欺きをもって、わたしを囲んだ。しかしユダはなお神に知られ、聖なる者に向かって真実である。		11:12 Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit. Judah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.
12:1エフライムはひねもす風を牧し、東風を追い、偽りと暴虐とを増し加え、アッスリヤと取引をなし、油をエジプトに送った。		12:1 Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
12:2主はユダと争い、ヤコブをそのしわざにしたがって罰し、そのおこないにしたがって報いられる。		12:2 Yahweh also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him.
12:3ヤコブは胎にいたとき、その兄弟のかかとを捕え、成人したとき神と争った。		12:3 In the womb he took his brother by the heel; and in his manhood he contended with God.
12:4彼は天の使と争って勝ち、泣いてこれにあわれみを求めた。彼はベテルで神に出会い、その所で神は彼と語られた。		12:4 Indeed, he struggled with the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication to him. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with us,
12:5主は万軍の神、その名は主である。		12:5 even Yahweh, the God of Armies; Yahweh is his name of renown!
12:6それゆえ、あなたはあなたの神に帰り、いつくしみと正しきとを守り、つねにあなたの神を待ち望め。		12:6 Therefore turn to your God. Keep kindness and justice, and wait continually for your God.
12:7商人はその手に偽りのはかりを持ち、しえたげることを好む。		12:7 A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.
12:8エフライムは言った、「まことにわたしは富める者となった。わたしは自分ために財宝を得た」と。しかし彼のすべての富もその犯した罪をつぐなうことはできない。		12:8 Ephraim said, "Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won't find in me any iniquity that is sin."
12:9わたしはエジプトの国を出たときから、あなたの神、主である。わたしは祭の日のように、再びあなたを天幕に住まわせよう。		12:9 "But I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt. I will yet again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast.
12:10わたしは預言者たちに語った。幻を多く示したのはわたしである。わたしは預言者たちによってたとえを語った。		12:10 I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables.
12:11もしギレアデに不義があるなら、彼らは必ずむなしき者となる。もし彼らがギルガルで雄牛を犠牲にささげるなら、彼らの祭壇は畑のうねに積んだ石塚のようになる。		12:11 If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.
12:12（ヤコブはアラムの地に逃げっていった。イスラエルは妻をめとるために人に仕えた。彼は妻をめとるために羊を飼った。）		12:12 Jacob fled into the country of Aram, and Israel served to get a wife, and for a wife he tended flocks and herds.
12:13主はひとりの預言者によって、イスラエルをエジプトから導き出し、ひとりの預言者によってこれを守られた。		12:13 By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
12:14エフライムはいたく主を怒らせた。それゆえ主はその血のとがを彼の上にのこし、そのはずかしめを彼に返される。		12:14 Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger. Therefore his blood will be left on him, and his Lord {The word translated "Lord" is "Adonai."} will repay his contempt.
13:1エフライムが物言えば、人々はおののいた。彼はイスラエルの中に自分を高くした。しかし彼はバアルによって罪を犯して死んだ。		13:1 When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. He exalted himself in Israel, but when he became guilty in Baal, he died.

They say of them, 'They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.'
13:3それゆえ彼らは朝の霧のように、すみやかに消えうせる露のように、打ち場から風に吹き去られるもみがらのように、また窓から出て行く煙のようになる。		13:3 Therefore they will be like the morning mist, and like the dew that passes away early, like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, and like the smoke out of the chimney.
13:4わたしはエジプトの国を出てからこのかた、あなたの神、主である。あなたはわたしのほかに神を知らない。わたしのほかに救う者はない。		13:4 "Yet I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt; and you shall acknowledge no god but me, and besides me there is no savior.
13:5わたしは荒野で、またかわいた地で、あなたを知った。		13:5 I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
13:6しかし彼らは食べて飽き、飽きて、その心が高ぶり、わたしを忘れた。		13:6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten me.

13:9イスラエルよ、わたしはあなたを滅ぼす。だれがあなたを助けることができよう。		13:9 You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me, against your help.
13:10あなたを助けるあなたの王は今、どこにいるのか。あなたがかつて「わたしに王と君たちとを与えよ」と言ったあなたを保護すべき、すべてのつかさたちは今、どこにいるのか。		13:10 Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges, of whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes?'
13:11わたしは怒りをもってあなたに王を与えた、また憤りをもってこれを奪い取った。		13:11 I have given you a king in my anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.
13:12エフライムの不義は包みおかれ、その罪は積みたくわえられてある。		13:12 The guilt of Ephraim is stored up. His sin is stored up.
13:13子を産む女の苦しみが彼に臨む。彼は知恵のない子である。生れる時が来ても彼は産門にあらわれない。		13:13 The sorrows of a travailing woman will come on him. He is an unwise son; for when it is time, he doesn't come to the opening of the womb.
13:14わたしは彼らを陰府の力から、あがなうことがあろうか。彼らを死から、あがなうことがあろうか。死よ、おまえの災はどこにあるのか。陰府よ、おまえの滅びはどこにあるのか。あわれみは、わたしの目から隠されている。		13:14 I will ransom them from the power of Sheol {Sheol is the place of the dead.}. I will redeem them from death! Death, where are your plagues? Sheol, where is your destruction? "Compassion will be hidden from my eyes.
13:15たとい彼は葦のように栄えても、東風が吹いて来る。主の風が荒野から吹き起る。これがためにその源はかれ、その泉はかわく。それはすべての尊い物の宝庫をかすめ奪う。		13:15 Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come, the breath of Yahweh coming up from the wilderness; and his spring will become dry, and his fountain will be dried up. He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.
13:16サマリヤはその神にそむいたので、その罪を負い、つるぎに倒れ、その幼な子は投げ砕かれ、そのはらめる女は引き裂かれる。		13:16 Samaria will bear her guilt; for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open."
14:1イスラエルよ、あなたの神、主に帰れ。あなたは自分の不義によって、つまずいたからだ。		14:1 Israel, return to Yahweh your God; for you have fallen because of your sin.
14:2あなたがたは言葉を携えて、主に帰って言え、「不義はことごとくゆるして、よきものを受けいれてください。わたしたちは自分のくちびるの実をささげます。		14:2 Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Tell him, "Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good: so we offer our lips like bulls.
14:3アッスリヤはわたしたちを助けず、わたしたちは馬に乗りません。わたしたちはもはや自分たちの手のわざに向かって『われわれの神』とは言いません。みなしごはあなたによって、あわれみを得るでしょう」。		14:3 Assyria can't save us. We won't ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, 'Our gods!' for in you the fatherless finds mercy."
14:4わたしは彼らのそむきをいやし、喜んでこれを愛する。わたしの怒りは彼らを離れ去ったからである。		14:4 "I will heal their waywardness. I will love them freely; for my anger is turned away from him.
14:5わたしはイスラエルに対しては露のようになる。彼はゆりのように花咲き、ポプラのように根を張り、		14:5 I will be like the dew to Israel. He will blossom like the lily, and send down his roots like Lebanon.

14:7彼らは帰って来て、わが陰に住み、園のように栄え、ぶどうの木のように花咲き、そのかんばしさはレバノンの酒のようになる。		14:7 Men will dwell in his shade. They will revive like the grain, and blossom like the vine. Their fragrance will be like the wine of Lebanon.
14:8エフライムよ、わたしは偶像となんの係わりがあろうか。あなたに答え、あなたを顧みる者はわたしである。わたしは緑のいとすぎのようだ。あなたはわたしから実を得る。		14:8 Ephraim, what have I to do any more with idols? I answer, and will take care of him. I am like a green fir tree; from me your fruit is found."
14:9知恵のある者はだれか。その人にこれらのことを悟らせよ。悟りある者はだれか。その人にこれらのことを知らせよ。主の道は直く、正しき者はこれを歩む。しかし罪びとはこれにつまずく。		14:9 Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.
